My teen expelled her Mirena two weeks after insertion. Her doctor then offered the smaller Kyleena as an alternative but the experience was bad enough DD refused and just deals with her symptoms every month. The insertion was done in a surgical facility under anesthesia and was the only not traumatic part of the whole process. |
I wish they would just ban TikTok altogether. |
Just say no to sex for teens. |
Oh go away. |
Apparently China uses plain steel IUDs, not sure why we only have copper or hormonal options. |
Because they don't have to worry about lawsuits for destroying fertility |
OP here. Truly grateful for all the responses. Good information for my daughter to discuss with her doctor. If she decides on an IUD I will help her advocate for pain relief/sedation. |
I would say try the pill first. If she doesn’t like the side effects she can just stop it.
Once you get an IUD, you are stuck with it for a while, probably 3 months or so while you give it a chance and hope symptoms improve, than another 1-3 months waiting to get an appt with the OB to get it removed. That is. Long time if it is making periods worse |
I had the paraguard for 10 years. Easy insertion and removal. It was great, no problems army all. But it sounds like it might be difficult for teens. |
DD switched to IUD after BC pills gave her bad side effects. THe insertion was better than expected with pain meds and she is happy with it. |
Yes - we all know; “things are different in your country.” |
I had two kids and it was so painful during insertion that I made the doctor stop and write me a prescription for the pill. Granted I had csections so I never dilated but still AGONIZING. Please don’t do this to her. |
Do they still have nuvarings? I liked those much better than bcp or an iud… |
I love my Nuvaring. Make sure to set a phone reminder to take it out/put it back in. But I had all kids of stomach problems on the pills and none on Nuvaring. |
No one who I know who had a child vaginally complained about IUD insertion later. |
