As someone else mentioned above you should be able to filter for AC but you want to rely on good reviews for this. A lot of reviews will note the AC was broken or weak.

Good points. A very common solution will be the portable AC units in bedrooms. They need to be the type which push warm air out a vent through the window. They are worthless if they don't have that. They are quite loud, although once you get used to them you will probably sleep fine, since it's constant sound.

We went in late August years ago, and it wasn't too hot, and fans were enough. But ask about screens on windows. We opened the windows at night for cooler air, which worked well, but screens are uncommon in Europe (WHY????) and we woke up with mosquito bites on our arms and legs.

Parisian here. Because until a few years ago, mosquitoes were very uncommon in Paris. Now I can't believe they have to go from quartier to quartier to SPRAY to protect inhabitants against the Tiger mosquito. It boggles the mind. The Paris I grew up in never had mosquitoes.

I guess they haven't retrofitted the windows for screens yet. It hasn't crossed their minds, but I suppose they'll get there one day.

His ideal is once in the winter and once in the summer. I'm trying to push him towards spring, but we'll see if that takes. I am one of those people who overheats and passes out. I don't spend a ton of time outside during the height of the day in high temperatures, and stay out of the sun. So I'll go to the beach from 8am to 10am, and then sit on a shaded deck with a fan or inside with AC for all of mid-day then head out at dinner time. I have been this way since I was a young girl.

So far we have been to Paris in both late November and early May, but in 2025 Dh wants to go visit family in August. How do I find an apartment or Air BnB with air conditioning? Most of his family is in the 6th, 7th and 8th, so somewhere around there would be best. We could stay in a hotel too, but with a lot of relatives coming to visit I think an apartment might be easier, what with wanting to cook and some people staying over, etc.

We don’t need this dissertation and the nonsense that you overheat, as if this is unique to you. Just ask where there is a/c is Paris.

I only included it bc a lot of times people give me a hard time about it saying I'm being spoiled in the US, or I'm being difficult. It's not until they see me turn green, and start throwing up and then pass out that they believe it's an actual issue. I was trying to bypass that.

Again, we don’t need that information on here.

I also found that a lot of air bnbs used portable AC units (not even window units but little machines that were supposed to vent hot air). I found most of those by looking carefully at pictures, but always worth confirming. There are nice apartments out there with AC but especially with the crackdown on air bnbs in Paris hotels aren't a bad option in summer.

and don't forget to try the ice cream (not just berthillon but also Pierre herme had good stuff last time we were there)

Still have yet to see an apartment or house in Europe with screens. Have been in probably 20 the last 10 years on a few visits. Your reason makes sense- mosquitoes were definitely a thing for me growing up in the US. I could see them seeming unnecessary if mosquitoes weren't common.

We went to Paris in August during a heatwave. Our apartment had AC but we almost never put it on because the temps dropped under 70 each night (despite highs being 90). It was fine. I also really hate the heat. But I wouldn’t go to Paris I’m August because it sucks for other reasons.

Airbnb had an AC filter

Exactly. The MO on this forum is for someone to ask a very simple straightforward question, and the first five responses are some version of "Why do you need that?" or "You shouldn't/don't need that!" or "You're just being a spoiled American!"

Then of course, when someone tries to preempt the inquisition, they get criticized for that.

I just booked airbnb for Paris and other locations in France for this August. First I used the filter to select options with a/c. Then cross referenced reviews - don't just look at the most recent reviews, go back to the month you are searching for in the year prior to see comments about a/c and how warm or comfortable a particular apartment is. As pps have noted, that's where you'll see info about how well the a/c works or if it's just in bedroom(s). Finally, once I narrowed down to a couple of units I messaged the host to clarify and verify. That way I have documentation from them as well as additional information.

For reliable AC in Paris in August, a hotel is the only option, and it needs to be a well-known, reliable hotel that has many reviews speaking directly to the quality of the AC. There is nothing wrong with you for wanting this in August. I have been to Paris many many times and god forbid you are there during an August heatwave with no access to AC. It is brutal.

OP here. Thanks all, for your input and suggestions. I've convinced DH we should do May or June rather than August, and we're going to stay in a hotel suite so we have AC and space for relatives who come to Paris to see us. I'm very relieved!
