male or female au pair?

Hosted a male au pair when I had an infant, a 5 year old boy and 2 year old twins. I stayed home with the kids but I needed an extra set of hands. He could help lug the stroller, grab a wandering toddler and occupy the 5 year old at the park. You know, all the typical male like, dad like things that we don't see as weird at all when it's their parent-like figure. Did he change diapers? Not really. My 5 year old was a boy who like to play basketball so maybe that is reason it worked too.
I don't know. I chose the right au pair for the right time in our lives.

Do you really think any aupair comes to this country because they have an eagerness to work with children? I would put the childcare motivation at like #3 on the list beneath being in the US, travel and possibly a visa or ring.
