| Medium toned skin, blonde, blue eyes. Am overwhelmed by the choices! One for body and one for face? I am trying hard to stay out of the sun this year! Thanks!! |
| I've heard good things about both Jergens and Neutrogena from friends, but don't have any personal experience. |
| am also fair-medium, blonde, blue eyes -- hate neutrogena, coppertone. Jergens is OK, Aveeno also OK. I LOVE Clarins! |
| air brushed tans are so good. I had one a few yrs back and it lasted a long time, was very even and looked real. No tan lines either. |
| I second the nomination of Clarins. I use it for my face. I'm still trying to find the perfect self-tanner for my body though. |

Lancome Flash Bronzer for legs. Great for the whole body because it's so moisturizing. It's a creamy gel, but doesn't dry as quickly as some other gels, so you get a chance to really rub it in well and avoid streaks. It has a pretty bronze color, but I usually do it before bed, so I don't really get to enjoy that. Also, wouldn't want to use it and then sleep on white sheets.
Been using it for years. Great color. |

long ago, i used a coppertone self tanner and the smell was awful, like a very smelly food.
is that smell a thing of the past? |
| I think all self-tanners use the same active ingredient (derived from sugar cane maybe?) I've been using self-tanner for years and I've noticed that the smell is not as pungent as when I first started. Not sure if I'm just desensitized, or if it's really better. But the underlying smell is the same (though I don't think it smells like "very smelly food"!), I think they've just been able to mask it better. |
| i think i have used L'oreal - one of these very gradual - put it on every day and let it build up kinda thing. much easier to use b/c it is so gradual, reduces the problems with streaks! |

I used to be a self-tanner junkie in terms of trying everything out there at department stores, CVS, ordering Au Courant online, etc.
For the past year, I've used the L'Oreal sublime bronze (or something like that name) now. I love it. The cream will start to tint your legs in a few minutes. Clarins was too yellow for me; Coppertone used to be nice but stinky; Au Courant made my legs turn green. I did not like the Jergens. For lighter technique I always apply the tanner mixed with lotion or baby oil on my feet, elbows and knees. A lighter coat is better there. For mistakes the next day I use a nailbrush to scrub it off (around the ankles, toes, etc.) I got a lot of my reviews off of www.makeupalley.com as well. Check out the site for this years fav's. |
