I don't love that it's from Fox news but no way in hell that's a college student. A-hole paid protestors doing nothing but stirring up division.

At what point do these college students need to take some responsibility for the divisive people protesting alongside them?

On both the right and the left, this is a problem. And both sides are afraid to call out their more extreme members and prefer to just pretend that they aren't responsible.

The problem is that both sides are treated so differently (in particular by the media) on this issue.

Yes- Jan 6th rioters were treated like criminals and these protesters - calling for violence and intifada - are being treated with kid gloves likened to civil rights activists.

It’s truly mind-boggling to see the difference in treatment. These protesters are animals and should be treated as such. Masked rioters, breaking windows and barricading themselves inside buildings? Where’s the SWAT team?

And these thugs shouldn’t just be “suspended,” they should be expelled. With an arrest record.

Zero Jan 6 insurrectionists were arrested on Jan 6. They beat up police, destroyed the capitol, etc and were all allowed to just go home. On the other hand, lots of these students are getting arrested. So yes, there’s a big difference in treatment.

Serious answer - MPD actually saved rhe day on J6 and cleared the Capitol after the Capitol Police fell apart. MPD is very expert in handling protests and crowd control, since it’s their bread & butter in DC. They don’t provoke and then freak out and overreact … as much as other PDs do, at least. I don’t think NYPD is as good at this.

Administrators should also require all students to watch the videos of Hamas’s gleeful attacks on Oct. 7. The journalists who have seen these videos report that they’re virtually unwatchable because the violence is so graphic and inhuman.

Also add to the freshman curriculum a required study of Shariah law and how it treats women, gays, and nonbelievers.

Apparently, ignorance is strength when applied to these overprivileged rioters.

I'm not condoning calling for violence and intifada, but it doesn't rise to the same level as actually perpetrating violence and intifada, which the J6 rioters did.

I think breaking into private property as the Columbia rioters have done, refusing to leave private campus, and preventing Jewish students from passing through to get to class - as occurred on UCLA’s campus- should certainly be considered trespassing, vandalizing, and harassment, respectively. Their message is a lot less palatable when they use violent and aggressive tactics. This is not civil disobedience.

Sure - the students being arrested will be released almost immediately. The J6 rioters may not have been arrested that day, but they certainly were eventually arrested and given jail sentences. You’re right - big difference.

And if you dont know who Hind is you’ve been avoidinng the truth in Gaza.

Independent of the actions of these students, talks are continuing about a cease fire and release of additional hostages.

There are many names that the hall could be renamed, both Palestinian and Israeli, including the living hostages.

The Israelis have said they will invade Rafeh regardless of whether or not there is a ceasefire.

And Hamas could prevent that by surrendering and releasing all hostages. Why aren’t protesters demanding this of Hamas?

NYPD is certainly good at removing trespassers, when given the order. It's just a question of when that order should be given, or when waiting is a better response by those in charge.

They said that when it became clear that Hamas has no intention of agreeing to a ceasefire. And why would they? They release the hostages, they have no leverage. They keep the hostages, no ceasefire, Israel continues its operation, and Gaza continues to get sympathy in the media. That’s exactly what Hamas wants. They don’t care about the Palestinians dying. Hamas leadership are all safe in exile and they have things exactly where they want them.

Precisely this. Protesters are merely Hamas’s useful idiots, spreading exactly the propaganda Hamas wants them too. They truly couldn’t care less what happens to the Palestinian people - in fact, the more casualties the better for them. These are not just terrorists, they’re psychopaths.

Exactly. Democrats have historically been the ones to question elections.

For what it’s worth, I was not bothered by these protests until the turn they took over the past week or so. The protestors are not in their right state of mind, and that is dangerous. They are very much like the Jan 6th rioters at this point- desperate and deranged.

Students occupying Columbia buildings calling for divestment to pressure a president stop a war. Where have I heard that before? Must be Jan 6

Your brain cells are not working correctly. Maybe reboot and see if that helps?

DP. You need a reality check. The Columbia protesters are no better than the J6ers at this point. Disrupting operations and destroying property is over the line. The J6 people felt just as justified in their cause as the Gaza protesters do. Both groups are nuts and dangerous. You are biased if you don’t see the parallels. Get out of your progressive bubble. This is a really, really bad look.

PP here. The protestors are getting unruly and are no longer going to convince anyone, including the school administration, of anything (if they ever were, which is doubtful). They are certainly not the same as the insurrectionists, in any way. Nor are they "occupying Columbia buildings calling for divestment to pressure a president stop a war" (that may be their hope but it isn't a stated or unstated goal) and nor did the insurrectionists have any sort of similar stated or unstated goal.

I am not in a progressive bubble anymore than you are. However, I respond to the words in a post, which are somewhat incoherent and inaccurate.

Columbia junior Jessica Schwalb described the campus to CBS News as "lawless. Utter ancarchy." She said demonstrators in Hamilton Hall "zip-tied the doorhandles together and then broke the windows, bashed the windows with hammers and put these metal bike locks around the door handles. They put the bike lock on the first set of doors is what I saw and then they were bringing tables, the heavy black metal tables from the eating area that's right in front of Hamilton Hall, and had a group of people push them up against the door handles as a barricade and then people were also bringing furniture from Hamilton Hall to barricade inside."

At UNC Chapel Hill, 30 people were detained as of Tuesday morning, the school said. The move came after university officials told protesters they must leave their encampment by 6 a.m. All 30 people had refused to leave, and they "attempted to block the UNC Police vehicles by standing in front of them and throwing items at officers," according to a statement from the university. Protesters also attempted to "forcibly enter" a building by "pushing officers and refusing to comply with requests" from campus police and facility managers.

Assaulting police officers? Forcibly taking over college buildings? Arrest them all.

The reason it has gotten out of control at the top is because Shafik is Muslim. She may not be antisemitic but she doesn’t want to cut off the spigot of donors

The thugs aren’t getting paid for doing nothing. This is all prescribed by their handlers.

More than 450 of the January 6th protesters have gone to jail. Hopefully the same fate will befall the pro-Hamas students running riot at Columbia.
