We've been looking to move to MD from DC for several years, but really struggling to find an area that feels right. But post-Covid we have some different options. DH now has the option of just commuting into Baltimore 3 days a week and I've gone fully remote, so we no longer have to stick to the DC suburbs.
Anyone have any experience with Severna Park, Millersville, or Pasadena. In particular, we are interested in some the areas further east, closer to the Severn River or near the bay. It looks like the schools are well regarded (at least going by Great Schools rankings which I know don't mean a ton) and I just like the housing styles and sizes a lot more than what we've been finding in Columbia, Odenton, or Gambrills. What's the area like? I know it's more rural, obviously. But is it conservative like southern MD? We want to stay away from that. How diverse? Any good neighborhoods? We'll obviously go out and spend time there before we put in any offers, but I'm just trying to get a feel for the area since I haven't spent much time there. |
| Search the forum. Several recent threads hashing out AA county. |
Yep. I’ve been on this forum forever and it’s really noticeable how talked about these neighborhoods are all of a sudden. Interesting. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/981474.page https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/973998.page https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/972158.page https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/954323.page https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/946532.page https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/935735.page |
| Thanks PPs. I usually frequent these forums but I guess haven't been looking as often lately because I missed these (or somehow just absorbed the information without realizing where it was from?). Thanks for the heads up. |
| All I remember about Pasadena is that people were maskless much earlier than the DC suburbs. |
I think it’s because waterfront AA co is such a dreamy place to live if you can work remotely at least most days. But if all y’all join us out here that might change! |
| One of my friends lives in millersville. To me it seems like they plopped several cookie cutter developments out in the middle of nowhere. there is nothing to do. The schools her kids go to are not diverse at all. I have attended some of her kid's instrument performances and I was surprised at the lack of diversity. I have also gone to a few of her parties and I found most of her neighbors nice but all they talked about were their kids and their kid's sports. I couldn't change the subject and was pretty bored. My friend likes it enough for now but has thought about moving elsewhere to give her kids a more well rounded childhood. |

Severna Park is where people want to go when they want to appear fancy, and they have achieved success if they get a place on the water.
And with no traffic it is a solid 30 min to Baltimore and further to DC, so it's not like you just pop over for dinner a few times a week. |
