"And that's the thing about illicit affairs And clandestine meetings and longing stares Look at this idiotic fool that you made me You taught me a secret language I can't speak with anyone else..." "And he can be my jailer, Burton to this Taylor Every love I've known in comparison is a failure." |
-1 She sounds like someone who was strung along for a really long time. Add to that her rise to ridiculous levels of fame, and yet he remained unattainable. It sounds like a mind F to me. |
I think it is precisely because of her ridiculous level of fame that he walked out. Matty Healy strikes me as very genuine, some may say to a fault and doesn't want a part of the PR machine bs. He probably gave her an ultimatum to stop trying to clean his image and change his story in order for them to be together, she chose fame and to "sparkle", and now she has regrets, misses him and wants him back. (imgonnagetyouback) If you listen to his song Part Of The Band, he says something like She was part of the air-force, and I was just part of the band. And then there is her song Bejeweled, which I believe is also about him: And when the band (his 1975 bandmates) asks do you have a man, I can still say I don't remember. |
Why are both of the Taylor Swift threads now the Matty Healy fan club threads? |

Part Of The Band, The 1975 "I like my men like I like my coffee Full of soy milk and so sweet, it won't offend anybody" and Enough about me now "You gotta talk about the people, baby" - he is mocking her And that's why she is now releasing this album into the world, and everyone is finally making the connection between him and so many of her songs from the past. She is showing him that she is done caring about their images and just wants to be together, even if it means burning her life down. It remains to be seen if Taylor is too late and this is all in vain. My money is on their story not being finished. |

Literally nothing. She’s spilling tea, connecting dots, and saying to the world “get it now?” And then she moved right the h1ll on. |

He also mocks her/her fans when he sings, “Well I take care of my kids, she said.” “The kids” are her fans. They literally call her Mother. She chose them over him for a long time, sneaking around and covering it all up with soy-milk Joe for the sake of her good image. And singing in code about him so that only he and a few others got it. So Matty walked away. Can you blame him? And now she wants him back. She wasn’t kidding with “teenage petulance.” |

I just listened - I found it a bit boring. Disappointing, because I’ve been a fan. No lush melodies on this one. |
I think she does. Why release these songs now? Why tell the world about these clandestine hookups, her longing for him and the dozens upon dozens of songs she wrote for him? Why risk damaging her image now that she has moved on and it is over? Her crazier fans are still doing their "no longer a Swiftie","Ratty Healy" stupidity as we speak. So to end would Taylor Swift bring that upon herself and look like a fool to her current boyfriend and to at least some of the general public if there was no chance of her ever getting back with Matty Healy? This is a man she has been in love with for at least a decade, all of her adult life so far. You don't recover from that in one summer while on a grueling touring schedule, especially when it wasn't you who chose to break it off. In Fortnight, she tells him he won't be able to move on unless they are together "Move to Florida, buy the car you want, but it won't start up 'til I touch you." |
That was my first impression. My second impression was, ok, interesting lyrics. A week later and I am obsessed with some of the songs! Give it another listen. I particularly love But Daddy I Love Him - lyrics and the country vibe are awesome. Down Bad, TTPD, Fortnight, Guilty As Sin also good. |
NP - my trajectory was similar. I was meh at first but it grew on me after a few listens. Not everything, I think there are too many songs altogether, but now I'm really into a lot of it. I love the bolded, plus Peter and some others. |
Fun fact: Part Of The Band was produced by Jack Antonoff. This guys knows exactly what has gone down, and I hope he will publish a memoir one day when they are older. |
I don't like how the music sounds like an afterthought. Too many songs have a mood more than a melody, and even the, that music is stretched and contracted, rising and falling, speeding and slowing underneath her lyrics. It's really disconnected when listening. |
I'm another who also likes it the more I listen to it. |
