Lived near the school before. Really loud and rowdy from what I have seen. I do believe there are many changes in store for that school though. I have never sent any of my children there.

Some parents have committed themselves to the lower grades (PS, PK, maybe K) in a way similar to what has happened in other schools on the Hill. Several of those schools have really made huge strides in a relatively short period of time and I can anticipate a similar improvement happening at LT if involved parents continue to send their kids there.

My son is in Pre-K at Ludlow-Taylor, and we love what is happening there. Arts integration, Reggio Emilia, Spanish, partnership with Fillmore Arts. Our son loves his teachers and is thriving. As far as test scores go, LTES is comparable to other schools on the Hill, and better than many of them. Until the new principal arrived last year, the school had not reached out to the community much. Now we're getting to know what a great school we have right in our midst. Definitely worth a look!

I am hearing great things - it's on our list for the lottery. My kid's speech pathologist (smart woman, ivy league eduated, knows kids) went to the open house for her kid and said she was really impressed. I know two Ludlow families who are very involved - I think one of the dads is a teacher.

I know a great teacher who taught at Ludlow Taylor. She did NOT speak well of the place! She was sorry she'd left a charter school to go there and wanted to come back, even if it meant less money. Between the school itself and the general DCPS dysfunctional bureaucratic BS it's a mess.

Blogger "Dee does the District" was there and the Principal is apparently a bit of a mess.

She fired the whole special ed team, though the firings ended up being overturned.

There was an article on Ludlow Taylor in the Hill Rag recently and it had lots of quotes from the principal. I thought some of the things she said to a reporter were less than circumspect.

I think you could probably use the school for free daycare, but smart money says inboundary parents will flee in the higher grades.

L-T is on the move and the in-bounds involvement at the younger grades will bring about some of the same changes seen at Brent and Maury. It is important to get current information from people in the know when learning about schools on the Hill. The sutuation can change in a matter of one or two years. I am very dubious of the negative feedback on L-T posted here.

I know everyone desperately wants to believe this, but it just isn't so.

I live inbounds for this school and I would love for it to succeed. Even if I didn't care about having a good neighborhood school, I would care that LT improving would make my home more valuable.

I wouldn't send my kids there under this principal. Period.

OP here - thanks for those who have responded. Is the problem that there is no quality special education? Or isi it that the principal is a poor manager. I'm confused by some of the responses. For the PP who is inbounds but won't send his/her child there, how old is your child? In the pre-k prorams where there seems to be enthusiasm or is the dc older.

i came very close to sending my PS3 kid to LT. We got into our in-bounds school at the last minute (maury) so we opted to go in-bounds. but LT is doing lots of great things (and being mentored by peabody) and i personally know LT parents who are very educated and involved (which generally translates into school improvement). i expect LT to go the way brent and maury have gone, which means it will be extremely desirable in a year or two. bottomline? it's a good option for your 3 year old!
