It honestly was a lot of word salad and despite him saying he was issuing this policy recommendation because he didn't see a sense of urgency surrounding the situation, I don't see any immediate impacts on any of the recommendations he's putting forth which all just amount to more money and more wraparound services that may or may not work.

Well then, how would you propose that the city address the problem? Do you have any ideas of how to reduce truancy that won’t cost additional money and which are absolutely guaranteed to work?

Acknowledging that there is a problem is the first step to solving that problem. And that is apparently more than Bowser and her Green Team compadres can muster.

We also shouldn’t forget how we got into this mess in the first place. Namely, the unjustifiably prolonged school closures that were entirely at the behest of the current mayor.

The solution is to arrest the kids who don't show up to school by bringing back truancy police and the twofer that are nuisance laws and racially-biased enforcement, of course!

Allen got dragged in the Roll Call

pro-recall set can rattle off a list of grievances. They are unhappy with the direction he took as chair of the council’s public safety committee from 2017 to 2022, saying he “bragged about reducing the number of police officers on the beat.” Allen has defended his budget proposals and support for violence interruption programs. “We are reducing the size of our police force in a responsible way and shifting funds into other important priorities to make us all safer,” he wrote in a 2020 social media thread.

Recall proponents also accuse him of trying to “open the jail doors and let out violent criminals.” Allen led the revision of a 1985 law aimed at rehabilitating youth that The Washington Post found had led to “violent offenders back on D.C. streets.” Allen sought to strengthen that law by limiting eligibility, but the revision also raised the age of people who could participate in the program to 24. He championed a similar age expansion to a “second-look” resentencing law, angering critics who feel the city is showing too much leniency to adult offenders.

And along with the rest of the council, Allen supported an overhaul of the city’s criminal code that would have reduced maximum penalties for crimes like carjacking, among other things.

More violence courtesy Charles Allen, who led the charge to decrimalize metro …

I would love an update from the recall effort. Would be good to know where things stand.

Think I saw that they were about halfway to their goal with four months remaining.

They exposed his pattern of compulsive lying (some multiple whoppers that are so ridiculous as to be hide-in-your-house embarrassing) and got him to vote for legislation he hates and to pretend to care about crime.

It's a win no matter what happens

He’s wised up and doesn’t comment on crime anymore since people realized that he thinks every violent crime suspect is in “deep crisis”.
