that said maybe jury didn’t understand or something

And his lawyer was incompetent as well. So, let's have a mistrial and start over in two years. Sounds good right?

Wow, the person that actually said they were defending this guy because it’s normal for boys to like to drive fast? Now it makes sense given his family and friends have this sort of perspective. Not only did this kid speed at an incredibly reckless pace, he sped up to beat a yellow traffic light and endangering any pedestrian or car on the road. In addition, he was not licensed and had Passengers in the car which is not permitted given his license situation. He also endangered his friends lives by driving so recklessly. NONE of those things had anything to do with the SUV driver. How anyone thinks this bozo should get off with a slap on the wrist is beyond me. It’s obvious he’s grown up in a community full of entitlement

No I was just mentioning it.
I find this whole trying to shift the blame defense disturbing. It shows a lack of remorse.

Does anyone know why it took two years ?

It's usual for cases to take a long time to get to the trial.

Someone answered my question about this earlier. The defendant requested one or more delays and the judge granted them.

One of the news articles post-verdict said the jury asked a question about the definition of the word “callous.” I’m surprised that word was included in the jury instructions. Shows that a typical jury may struggle with issues that the largely college-educated DCUM posters would find simple.

So again, this family drove the reins on this trial to have it exactly when they wanted it and still they didn't prevail. I don't think they understand that no one in this incident wanted what happened to them either and that Usman was the only person behaving criminally. I get that he didn't intentionally mean to do this but he is not being tried for an intentional crime. He's being tried for being reckless.

Yes but also he INTENTIONALLY drove on a learners permit, INTENTIONALLY was speeding on Blake Lane and INTENTIONALLY sped up to beat a yellow light.

The family is here! He’s locked up and he will only come back by orders of the judge! No more hanging out with family and friends.

"Here?" At the courthouse?

He was only detained for the night. Likeky he wont get any jail time. That is the advantage of having expensive attorneys

I’m confused. Is the family wealthy and throwing money at expensive sports cars and high powered attorneys or are they poor and living in an apartment??

Did a previous poster say that Usman's father is a bus driver? He must have cautioned Usman about safe driving.

What's the point of detaining him for a single night if the judge intends to defer jail time until he issues a sentence? I also wonder if Shahid would be a flight risk.

Not sure what the standard procedure is for manslaughter cases. I think defendants convicted of murder are always incarcerated immediately following the verdict, but manslaughter isn't quite the same.
