"How bad is Miner Elementary?" is an unusual way to start a constructive dialogue with the engaged and passionate community we are building at Miner. The nuanced difficulties we face across DCPS with gentrification, school turnaround, diversity, and inclusion - all set in a deeply, historically difficult bureaucratic system led by DCPS and the District at large - are much bigger than one elementary school and the challenges and opportunities we face. At Miner, we are working to build a school based on shared values, which is much more difficult than looking to build a school that draws in middle class families "just because." Here is an excellent article for light reading: http://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2017/01/16/509325266/how-the-systemic-segregation-of-schools-is-maintained-by-individual-choices

If you're interested in Miner's community, please feel free to reach out. We are absolutely transparent and hope we can welcome those who share our values into the fold!

I'm pretty sure there are several posts in this thread about you specifically, Holly. (Good things from my perspective!)
