I don’t know why anyone would risk going to a Florida state university. Politics have taken control of all the public schools and they are in a downward spiral. Florida got higher ratings before, mostly because of their grading system, procedures, what was used for ranking . Now that rankings are focusing on outcomes Florida some of the studies have dropped Florida’s education system with a C rating.

The top public schools have always been in the Northeast and the worst have always been the Southern schools. Southern state schools are mostly students coming from these schools. Desantis, the one in charge of bringing the Florida public schools down went to Harvard and Yale.

Nope! It's just a real life example of "old man yells at cloud"

Hardly. Many people actually are realizing that schools in the south are often far less ridiculous when it comes to social policies and protests. There, I didn't even use the buzzword that triggers you so!

The "non-woke" schools you rave about usually just have more prevalent racism and homophobia. Not sure I'd call that "less ridiculous social policies".

Nobody's triggered sweetie, that's just the voices in your head

Really? Provide some actual citations which prove your claim. In reality, the "non-woke" schools simply don't have screaming, unhinged, nutjobs protesting every single thing and accusing others of "racism" or whatever the "ism" of the day is.

You really know absolutely nothing about college campuses, at least not the ones you criticize and label "woke."
The only "screaming, unhinged, nutjobs protesting" at my kid's school (one of your dreaded Ivies) are street corner preachers spouting hellfire and brimstone. Being a Christian, my kid takes them head on every time. There is no one screaming about racism, though there have been a few demonstrations from both perspectives of Israeli/Palestine situation. But, even with regard to that, trying to claim that demonstraters are "nutjobs" is trying to curb their free speech, something you likely claim to support, but when someone disagrees with you, you try to cancel it with "nutjob." I see your m.o.
Stop spreading propaganda. You don't realize you are the cancel culture.

Right back at you. In spades. Anyone who is aware of current events in any way has seen the unhinged "pro-Palestinian" protesters at these absurd schools, so you can stop your gaslighting and take a seat.

And good for UF for shutting down the hate speech of SJP. If any other organization was screaming its support of terrorism against any other group of people, it would also be shut down immediately at Ivies and other schools. Hate speech doesn’t have to be tolerated, sorry to disappoint.

This is hilarious. I have no ties to Florida, but Florida has excellent schools. You sound incredibly insecure and threatened. UF is the #6 public university in the country.

Not gonna stop pointing out that the whole "everything is dislike is woke and evil" blind mentality is borderline schizophrenic. Sorry that you can't handle reality.

That was not what happened. Also, if any of the pro-birther groups were shut down for harassing people, like they're known to do, or bringing on random right wing media groups to harass and record students people on the right would lose it.

Conservatives have no problem with hate speech directed at liberals, queer people, Muslims, as they think it's just protected free speech. Why is this where the line is drawn?

I think they meant public K-12 schools. Clearly public universities in south are stronger than their northern counterparts. UVA, UNC like you mentioned but also UGA, GT, Florida. They do a good job attracting top students with in-state scholarships, competitive merit for OOS students and then high quality of life with weather, sports, attractive campuses. It’s attractive for top students.

Part of the problem is the constant use of the percentiles of APPLICANTS’ stats (as opposed to ACCEPTED applicants’ stats).

As acceptance percentages shrink, these become less revealing. Like if the acceptance rate is 80%, & kid is in top 25% of applicants, that is meaningful.

But these days, with these tiny acceptance rates, being in the top 25% doesn’t mean much. If they accept 12% of applicants & you are in top 25% of applicants, you don’t have enough info on which to predict whether you will be accepted.

The Ivy presidents were excoriated because they didn't shut down antisemitic HATE SPEECH - "from the river to the sea" garbage that calls for the genocide of Jewish people. But you knew that. If the speech had been, say, "Wipe out all blacks/Latinos/homosexuals/whatever group," you and your fellow LWNJs (as well as everybody else) would have called for their removal too. Apparently, it's a-ok with you to direct hate speech at Jews though. But do go on about cancel culture - the left has written the book on the subject.

NP here.

SJP also existed at UF until it was shut down by the school. So much for free speech.

And yes protests do happen at "non-woke schools"

Again, PLEASE step outside of your schizo den

DP. Stop trying to make “schizo den” happen. You just sound incredibly stupid.

And good for UF for shutting down the hate speech of SJP. If any other organization was screaming its support of terrorism against any other group of people, it would also be shut down immediately at Ivies and other schools. Hate speech doesn’t have to be tolerated, sorry to disappoint.

This thread is off the rails, hijacked by the rightwing lobbyist again.
Also, weren't the Ivy presidents dragged over the coals by Congress because they didn't censor speech? Your shut down suggestion feeds your narrative, just not the actuality. I'll bet you like to go on about cancel culture just not when you're canceling.

Apparently, "right-wing lobbyist" = anyone you disagree with. Noted.

Nobody said that

Buzzwords buzzwords buzzwords. Completely invalidates everything you said.

DP. The PP is correct. Truth hurts, I guess?

Nope! It's just a real life example of "old man yells at cloud"

Hardly. Many people actually are realizing that schools in the south are often far less ridiculous when it comes to social policies and protests. There, I didn't even use the buzzword that triggers you so!

You clearly do not know even what a lobbyist is.

The university presidents have been vigorously censoring speech for years in order to protect every minority group on campus. The only minority group they refused to protect was Jewish students.
