Can we draw any conclusions about the Lima era as a result of how the older teams have done, or it that not fair? Do we know what the plan might be for the VYS "A" teams in the future? A few younger teams are doing okay.

Hard to say. Younger teams are doing OK. Older girls teams are dominant -- you could argue they aren't getting enough competition in the league -- but they'll age out in a couple of years. The middle years are struggling, particularly on the boys side, and a lot of that had to do with players going to Bethesda South and so forth. I don't blame Eddie for that -- VYS developed some good players, and Bethesda South said, "Hey, thanks very much." It happens.

All of those leagues face this sort of question, though. What does Roanoke Star do in CCL? Should clubs be able to pull an overmatched team out of an age group and perhaps replace that team with a team from another club? That puts a dent in the "club-centric" model, but it means you don't have teams that are hopelessly stuck at a level that's over their heads.

Which Bethesda South team are you referring to? The 02s?

I think so. Last year's U13s, maybe some U12s?

Yeah, that's the 02s. I didn't realize there were some former VYS kids on that team. They are fantastic and in the State Cup final. The 06 team only has two kids who jumped from VYS.

I'm starting to think VYS travel exists to send teams to NCSL Divisions 3 and 6 through U13 and then to supply other clubs like McLean and Bethesda South with good players. Hmmm.

The player departures happen at just about every club. It's not a VYS-specific issue to lose sleep over.

Agreed. Kids leave clubs all the time for a variety of reasons.

The top VYS teams from U11 upward play in VPL. With mixed results. Some of them would be Div 1-2 in NCSL.

How many kids from VYS play for Bethesda South 02?

Not sure. I recall about five players in the same age group leaving a couple of years ago, but that was obviously before the age groups changed. Some would be 02, some 03, I think.

And I'm not sure they're all still there.

So of all programs to get started, why Super Y?

Probably a combination of things. Several VYS kids were playing Super Y for other clubs. Why not keep that revenue at VYS? I'm not a big fan of Super Y. DS played last summer and it seemed like a lot of money for a mediocre experience. Others have described it to me in no uncertain terms as a money grab.

We liked it for the extra summer training. It was especially nice when my child moved to the large fields - they used them in the summer for Super Y so they were more used to the larger field come fall.

I am not aware of any former VYS players on the current Bethesda 02 team.

Yeah, there are none. That was someone making crap up as some excuse for something.

No, it wasn't.

First of all -- Bethesda South, not Bethesda.

Second of all -- this was before the age-group change, so I have no idea if they're 02, 03, 01 or whatever.

Third -- this was a couple of years ago, and I know at least one former VYS player was cut after a year at Beth South and returned to VYS.

By this point, they all could've gone elsewhere. Maybe another came back to VYS. My guess is that those who are no longer at Beth South went somewhere else.

Boggles my mind the contortions to which some people will go to bash VYS when there are some legitimate reasons to bash it. Geez.
