You are really not seeing this issue properly, through the lens of compassion and equity.

I know full self driving is a work in progress but I wonder if there are any cars that have the technology to recognize that they are off the roadway or are about to hit a person/bike/stopped car/building and will simply stop.

I fancy myself a competent driver but someday I will get older or will develop a medical condition where I would be willing to crack open my dusty wallet for a car with this technology. I would hate to be the driver in this situation.

I have a kia that I hate driving the has this technology - it will shudder/jerk to a stop and you have ti depress the brake to get it going again. I dont poison myself with alcohol so dont know if this is effective on a drunk person. one he car jerks to a stop- it won't move if you press the gas, have to press the brake which release in an action much like a clutch and then you can keep driving. I know this is how it works for backing out, not 100 percent sure it's this way for fwd driving. it also shudders and jerks if you try to switch lanes without indicators or it thinks you are going to switch lanes unsafely. its the most annoying droving experience ever.

Don’t rush to judgement here.

Yes who amongst us hasn't driven our car straight into a building full of children under the influence of alcohol. Complete accident that could happen to anyone.

It's a sick troll who is mocking what they perceive as an overly permissive attitude towards crime not realizing that there's nothing funny about a birthday party full of dead kids.

Typical of DCUM to see this situation solely through the lens of extreme privilege, with no attempt to understand or empathize with what in her background or upbringing could have possibly led to this unfortunate circumstance.

You’re an idiot or a troll, or both. Her background doesn’t matter. Everyone must follow the law regardless of their upbringing.

Really, OP. You don’t know the woman. You don’t know what her circumstances were / are.

Who are you to judge her?

She knows that a drunk driver murdered two children.

I"m no expert, but why does it look like it wasn't "losing control" that made her hit that building? I feel like I you had lost control of your car (from hitting a speed bump someone said?), wouldn't you be braking? She looks like she's accelerating, or at the very least not slowing down, and she had to see the building because if she was asleep or something she wouldn't have been going so fast. It just looks intentional to me, which is even more sad and more scary.

Maybe she was trying to commit suicide.
