There are people crying on this board because they can't have children and here are parents just willingly throwing them away. Disgusting.

I mean, if OP is homeless, it would hard for his child to visit him.

If OPs story is true he’s eligible for unemployment.

Unemployment does not give enough money to cover rent, let alone utilities, toiletries, food (before you say food stamps they are meant to be a supplement, not to cover the cost of food), etc. And if you work even five hours they immediately lower the amount of unemployment you get.

Right, but OP would also be eligible to recalculate child support, based on unemployment. So unemployment plus child support plus savings while OP keeps looking for a job that pays more than unemployment.

Most judges will not recalculate child support.

1. That’s not true, even in the DC area, but
2. I’m sure you just happen to know all about the family court system in Indiana.

NP and while I agree that other PP sounds kinda crazy as a practical matter it will probably be several months before he can get the support recalculated to reflect the job loss. Probably at least 45 days to get the initial hearing and then another 60-90 days for the trial. This could be faster if they mediate.

That's all to say I don't think this helps his immediate financial situation.

Find another job.

I would never separate from a minor child, OP.

However I know plenty of Chinese parents who send their kids back to China to be raised by grandparents while their focus on their careers and make money here. And then the kids return for high school and college.

You've got to do what you think is right for you, OP, but consider that your child really needs you. Whether you're his father or his mother.

What line of work are you in, OP?

You should absolutely not move. You are abandoning him. He is right.

13 year olds do not give any adult an ultimatum ever.
