Rankings. It picks up more games than Got Soccer.

I agree. Then SYC.

Has SYC 2012 beat Alex NL? How many girls did Alexandria lose to SYC for next year?

You must not watch much ECNL. Union has a very complicated and specialized style of play. Much different than the area clubs.

What is complicated about Union? Lol

They pass the ball around a little more, why does that mean its a "style of play"

Style of play starts out as build up from the back and nice passing. As they progress to ECNL it's all kick and run. How it digresses to that I don't know, but it does and it's a free for all after that.

“Nice passing” tell me you know nothing about this sport without telling me you know nothing about this sport.

So it sounds like Arlington doesn’t play some kind of Neanderthal soccer, and the coaching/training is reasonable, but that there’s no real club style. That’s completely fine. Selfishly, Arlington is probably the closest club for where we are looking for housing, so I was hoping for a decent answer (yes, we understand DD has to try out, and there’s no certainty for any of the ECNL/GA clubs in the area).

IF there are other insights about Arlington play style that would be helpful for a girl trying out, I am all ears.

We hope she makes the team! Most of the haters on this site stir the pot. Arlington is a great club. The kickball comments are dumb. CP and EG are doing great things for players and club.

The vast majority of the girls can't even connect a pass or get to the ball when passed to open space. Being always impressed by their younger teams, they progress to kick and run to compete with VDA in Loudoun and their teams drop off in competitiveness as they get older. There will be an influx of players from FVU this year and they will only take the strongest and fastest players. Without speed, they don't come close to Loudoun or VDA. Watch as more attention turns to these other clubs for college recruiting because they only play to win.

But if that entire team stays together next year I do not see any other 2012 teams beating them.

Who cares about the last 4 games (across multiple seasons) at this age when kids are changing so much? That said, they have not split 50/50; over the last 12 months BSC is 4-1 against Alexandria, winning 3-0 in the only game under the current coach and with the current roster.

In last year it's been 50 50. BSC won last game 3 to 0 but Alex beat BSC in Virginian for championship

True, but that’s a partial picture. In the 10 days in May before Alex beat BSC 1-0, they also lost to BSC 1-2 and 3-4, and Alex lost yet again to BSC 1-2 in March. Nice win in the May tournament final, but it’s an outlier over last 12 months, and in any event all 4 games from Spring 2023 are pretty much irrelevant in comparing these teams today given the changes in roster and coach for 2023-24 season. FWIW, Rankings’ algorithm currently predicts BSC beats Alex 3-1, with Alex having a 25% chance of winning. Not sure why we’re debating Alex vs. BSC, as Loudoun and SYC are the top 2012G teams in NVA, with even Arlington probably ahead of Alex right now.

I've heard that the Arlington 2011 team are giants for their age

Even their 3rd and 4th teams are strong. Both finished 1st in NCSL league in Fall. Black team had something like 40 goals that season so no - they can across the board in 2011 shoot

2011 year is loaded with talent and for a variety of reasons, everyone went to Arl. But they have an ADP League between Rec and Travel which they are able to pull from - it's like a developmental league where they can identify talent and a lot of those girls end up at U11/U12 transferring into Travel league upon invitations. It's a good way to develop talent that I don't see other clubs leveraging.

We played with another large club in the area and I would say Arl is much more aggressive in not pushing passing - not that they don't embrace it but the name of the game is definitely about scoring. Alexandria for example is crazy about developing passing to the point where everyone loses and by the time of U12, the players sick of losing because they don't know how to score.

Rankings app has Arlington 2011G as #1 in country. I don’t know whether they really are the best team nationwide, but they must be really good to rank that high. With that acknowledged, note also that the second team is 300+, third team is 500+, and fourth team is 800+, so let’s not get carried away with how good the entire age group is.

Youth ranking apps are slight of hand smoking mirrors

None of this is true. I do appreciate the level of effort at 730a. Must be a slow day at the office.
