The Kremlin was reticent on Tuesday about whether it would accept an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to hold a summit with Vladimir Putin in Washington later this year, saying only that the two men had other chances to meet as well.

The Kremlin’s failure to swiftly accept Trump’s invitation for a Washington summit has been noticeable. Though Moscow saw the Helsinki summit n the two leaders held last week as a success, the fiercely negative reaction by some U.S. politicians to Trump’s performance has taken some in Russia aback.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said that though Washington and Moscow agreed there was a need for another Putin-Trump meeting, Russia had not yet begun any practical preparations for a new meeting.

“There are other options (to meet) which our leaders can look at,” Ushakov told reporters, citing a meeting of G20 leaders in Argentina which starts at the end of November.

Looks like Putin does not want to come to DC...why would that be?

OP here - I am glad that Putin is not coming here yet - but wondering why. Is he smarter than Trump and realizes it would be a bad idea to rerun the treason episode right before election? Or is he afraid that some of his entourage might be arrested if he comes here?

Well it looks like Putin will be seeing Trump in Argentina before that so that might be one reason.

Or does he want to make Trump look like a complete and utter idiot? This is a huge power play. And Putin won bigly.

A WH invite is a yyuuggee deal. Getting one is a big honor. Or was until recently. Putin getting Trump to extend the offer make Putin look really powerful. Putin getting the public offer and turning it down? That is an unheard of snub. Which is why these things are usually done via back channels and quietly. So Trump’s staff has checked with Vlad’s staff, and knows the answer will be yes before the offer is given. And once it was given publicly, Putin’s staff could have quietly contact the WH staff with a no, and SHS could have let it go quiet, and when asked said something about both parties wanting to work together. Still trying to coordinate calendars, it might take a few months. It fades away. Especially in Trump chaos.

Here is what happened. Metaphor courtesy of my having 2 kids in high school. The hottest looking, richest, sports captain 4.7 GPA Stanford bound class president (the US as a nation. Obviously not Trump IRL). just flew Taylor Swift in to sing his prom asking at halftime of the biggest school event of the year, which has every kid and every parent at the school present. And he has Taylor serenade the ugly, fat, lazy and downright mean girl poors attending Longwood next year. And after Taylor finished singing “Love Story,” he announces his love for ugly fat mean girl to the world and asks her to prom. And the girl grans Taylor’s mike and stood their and smirked and handsome rich guy while the whole school looked on. And once she starts to get bored, she shoot him the middle finger, laughs in his face, and tells the whole school that he disgusts her and she can do better.

Trump got completely and thoroughly humiliated while the whole world watched.

That is a million Ls. Checks his twitter feed for “angry reacts”

PS— this is why we have a State Department. It’s not just Trump being humiliated.
