Any H1N1 vaccine updates? When and where can we get it?

Hello all,

I asked my doctor about the vaccine last week and she didn't have any news. She did not know where or when I would be able to get it. Have any of you heard anything? There has been very little communication about this. We have heard so much about the importance of getting the vaccine from the media; however, we have heard almost nothing about where we will be able to get it- not very reassuring! Thanks.

The first round is going to health care workers on the theory we need to keep them healthy to treat those who will get sick. 40 million doses are supposed to be shipped next week for more general use across the country and I'm sure there will be more news as that happens. I would hope that most physicians prioritize by risk, and pregnant women should be high on that list.

I call my son's pedi daily (they have a recorded message on flu updates) to keep as current as possible. My son's got asthma and is also in a high risk group, so I hope he also gets early priority.

They don't know yet. The first shipment was limited and targeted healthcare workers. We are all just sitting tight and waiting to hear additional information about when it becomes more available.

OP here. Thanks for the information. Do any of your OBs plan to supply you with it? I called my primary care physician about three weeks ago and she told me that her office will not have it. It seems as though my OB will not have it either. I hope that I will be able to find it somewhere!

My OB expected to have the shot in about 2 weeks. They will be giving it out to their pregnant patients when it comes in. Not sure if they have enough for non-pregnant patients but definitely none for spouses. My OB also did indicate that if I go into labor prior to that, there is a chance INOVA will be giving swine flu shots while in labor & delivery...

I would say your child's pediatrician (or future pediatrician) is a good place to start. Those caring for an infant less than 6 months of age should have some sort of priority.

Neither my OB nor my primary care doctor plan to offer it to patients, so I am watching closely to find where I can get it. I agree, the lack of info is frustrating!

My PCP said to follow the CDC's website for the latest news -- that's what he's doing -- and call to come in for a shot once the CDC says the vaccine has been released. His office does plan to offer it (at least, they've applied to do so), but has not gotten the word on when it will come.

flu.gov also has good (the same?) info.
