Net neutrality repealed

Don't worry, guys. Over 2 million fake comments who supported repeal - many from dead people - but Ajit Pai is on the take. Did I say, "take" when I meant "case"? No, I think take says it.

This whole timeline should make people see red (Spicy, I know you're DC local - I lurve you!) https://mobile.twitter.com/Alt_Spicerlies

I mean, the only people this favors are the executives at Verizon, Time Warner, Comcast, etc.

Everyone else will be screwed. And I can;t even with the folks on 4chan and reddit who think this is a good thing.

It takes a special kind of jerk to side with phone companies over citizens.

This isn't going to screw people like everyone is claiming. The idea that the ISPs will start limiting access to content for various reasons is highly unlikely. It wasn't happening before net neutrality and likely won't happen after. CNN has a good article:

http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/14/technology/net-neutrality-repeal-explainer/index.html

"The FCC is doing away with rules barring internet providers from blocking or slowing down access to online content. The FCC would also eliminate a rule barring providers from prioritizing their own content.

In the absence of a firm ban on these actions, providers will be required to publicly disclose any instance of blocking, throttling or paid prioritization. It will then be evaluated based on whether or not the activity is anti-competitive."

"The repeal could change how customers are billed for services, both for good and bad. T-Mobile, for example, was criticized by net neutrality supporters for effectively making it cheaper for customers to stream videos from Netflix and HBO, putting other video services at a disadvantage.

Without net neutrality, internet providers may pursue similar offers more aggressively, which would likely be viewed as a positive by consumers looking to save money on their streaming media.

Yet, some fear it's also possible internet providers will one day begin charging customers more to access services like Netflix that are currently included as part of your monthly bill."

Also note.....cable companies were already charging companies that wanted their content carried on their network. I lost DIY Network in my region because they couldn't come to terms with Verizon. That's the way free market works. I don't want big bad daddy government telling companies what content to carry.

Sigh...this tells me that you do not know what net neutrality means.

Please do some research and then get back to us. There is plenty of easily accessible information on the internet (for now).

What the companies can do now is charge wildly different rates for different access speeds, they can also limit or completely filter content (buh buy 4chan) and they can also allow companies like Facebook and google totally limit or direct 100% of the access and content you can reach.

It can also shut out small businesses from competing for eyeballs, and the list goes on.

This is serving oligarchy to the United States on a silver platter.

That's cable not the Internet, the latter of which has been classified as a public utility by some courts. Cable is not considered a utility. So, you don't want the big government to mandate your cable but you're fine with Verizon or any ISP charging you a premium for the Internet? Because that's the result of this act.

Is this vote it, then? Or can something be done to stop this before it goes into effect?

That crowd will never see the problem with this. If FOX or Breitbart suddenly take a little too long to call up Kellyanne will tell them it's because Obama is inside their modem.

Various state AGs are threatening to sue and state legislators can pass state laws for net neutrality.

Ajit Pai is going to be a super star in republican politics.

Good for carriers and small internet firms.

What does it mean? Do you think it means companies will now start limiting what content you can access? They could have done that before net neutrality and they didn't. Now you think they will?

I don't think YOU know what net neutrality is and you think it is limited to content and throttling. I'm glad you rely on big Government to run your life and save from the big bad wolves. Net neutrality was government overreach at it's finest. It's a free market and the ISPs should be allowed to run their business as they see fit, and you can choose to patronize the one you want.

I look forward to cheaper internet now.
