Can I use regular hair dye on my eyebrows?

Anonymous
I usually have my eyebrows tinted and threaded, but I'm wondering if I can buy a box of hair dye and do the tinting myself.

Could I use a little bit of the dye, then save the remaining dye for the next few times?

I wouldn't recommend it. Dye, if it goes in the eyes, can make you blind. I would only have a professional do it. Too much at risk.

Btw, once dye is made, it gradually loses its chemical potency so it should not be saved.

Yes, I used to do this when I had more time. You can't save dye that you've mixed, but you can save the Part A and Part B in their separate containers. Just don't mix up more than you need.

My stylist also did this for me when I'd go in for highlights (my brows are very blonde and need dye to even show up). A suggestion: spread a thick blob of lotion, vaseline, or even conditioner on your brows and leave it on for about 30 mins before you wash it off and then dye. It reduces the chances of the dye soaking into your skin and staining it.

I buy "For Men only", I think it is called. They make it for beards and mustaches. You can mix just what you need from the tubes and save the rest for later. Much cheaper and does the trick. I use medium brown for my dark brown brows....

OP here - thanks for the tips - I think I'll try it. I also have very light blonde eyebrows, and I like to dye them light brown so they are actually visible.

I've done it, carefully, applying the dye with a qtip so I don't get it everywhere. I also wouldn't leave the dye on as long as you leave it on my hair, depending on the color. Usually about 10/15 minutes was good for me....I found that if I left it on longer my eyebrows looked kind of crazy (it might have been the fact that I was dyeing my hair red at the time and my eyebrows didn't need to be THAT red, so YMMV on that).

Believe it or not, the NYTimes just did a report on how women now are shaving (I wouldn't recommend!) their brows or bleaching them blond.

I would suggest a darker blond brow powder with or without a tinted brow gel to keep them in place.

I have sparse, very blond eyebrows and after having them tinted way too frequently/expensively, my mom's facialist took pity on me and told me where to buy the dye made esp for eyebrows and how to do it. I ordered it off the internet (it's a german brand, called refectocil), and you mix a tiny bit of the color with the bleaching agent, apply with a small brush (immediately wipe off excess) and remove after a few minutes (I sometimes have to reapply but better too light than too dark). I think you'd have to be pretty spastic to get it in your eye (this is brow, not lash tint) so I wouldn't worry about that, but if some does get it, its safer than regular hair dye.

They have a light brown, but it's a little orangey for me, so I got a medium brown, which is more neutral. One kit has lasted me over a year.....
