What is your opinion of Liberty University? Is Liberty University a respected college? Will future employers respect the education and the degree that a person earns from Liberty University? Is Liberty University considered to be prestigious?
Anonymous
Nope to all of that.

No,no, no and no. Is it even accredited? Anyway, it's a pseudo school for religious nut jobs.

Should they apply to other schools like
ODU,

No to all the questions. I have no idea how the place maintains accreditation, actually. Virginia has a wide variety of excellent schools to choose from (public and private), but this is not one of them.

I have two very sane, politically and religiously moderate friends who are graduates. I think it's fine if you are going into a field where prestige doesn't matter. They both seem to have a lot of friends from college.

No no no no .

If I saw liberty on a resume, it would be in the circular file

We have a neighbor who is bragging that her child was just accepted at Liberty. THe weird thing is that they're not very religious, they listen to a lot of rock music, drink beer, etc. I'm wondering if they don't know what kind of school it is? Thinking Liberty is going to take their money and then threw their kid out for not being Christian enough.

I would not employ someone from Liberty.

Nope. I would also confirm if they are even accredited. If it is accredited, what organization if the organization.

As a PP indicated, I would be suspect that someone coming from Liberty would have a goal to proselytize their ideas in the office which would have me question their professionalism. I know that sounds unfair and I strongly believe in people's right to their religious beliefs, but an office setting is not the place for any of that no matter the religion. Because of those factors then I would truly think long and hard before considering Liberty University for my kid. Since it known primarily as a religious institution and not an educational institution then many people may have a similar reaction. There are plenty of other schools where a person can continue their strong religious beliefs and still get a good education.

Also, I believe Liberty Univ lost quite a bit of credibility when several of the law school graduates were reprimanded during the Bush administration after manipulating the hiring system to only hire extremely conservative and right-wing lawyers at DOJ. I don't remember the details, but I remember it being an issue.

Look elsewhere...

Correction: what organization offered the accreditation.
