Is Liberty University a respected college? What's your opinion of Liberty University?

I'd hire someone for, say, a development job or an admin job... but not a job for which I need analytical skills or scientific knowledge.

Oh, and I'd say it's not even comparable to BYU or Pepperdine.

I was stunned when an old friend said her child was going there. I actually thought she was joking, but figured out quickly that she was completely serious and happy about it. Still can't quite get my head around it.

I am a hiring manager and a LU grad resume passed my desk last week. While my politics are not liberal and the job is not related to science, my immediate reaction was "Heck no!"

Every student takes a course on creationism. How can a school offer any valid degrees in science with creationism in its core curriculum?

So Falwell apparently promised the university classes would be cancelled tomorrow if they beat Baylor in football. And they did. School's been in session what, a week?

It probably should be viewed like Oral Roberts, BYU, Pepperdine or the hundreds of other religious schools in this country. But it's connections to the Falwell family and far right policies still taints its reputation and limits the options of its graduates.

Come on. Liberty is not even close to the same class as these schools.

Liberty, Pepperdine and BYU are certainly in the same class. Here's the list with those schools and along with other schools that folks in this forum will certainly scoff at:

Liberty may not be quite in the same academic class as BYU and Pepperdine yet, but they are all very conservative schools with curriculums that are are outside the mainstream.

To help young people find a top-notch education at an institution that resonates with their principles, Newsmax — with the help of TheBestSchools.org, the Young America's Foundation, and other resources — has compiled a list of the 40 best colleges and universities for conservative values.

I don't think your ranking is talking about academics.

Very tough to get into. Have not met one liberty grad who was not successful.

Thanks for your input, Donald.

That said, I read in the Post recently that several Liberty grads returned their diplomas after Falwell praised Trump's Charlottesville remarks.

Clown college. I would never hire a grad.

Does speaking in tongues satisfy the language requirements there?

Same here, but I have a similar response to resumes that list UC Berkeley.

I am astonished by those who say they wouldn't hire based on that alone - maybe because I'm in the federal government and we know that we can't discriminate - but I wouldn't be impressed, either. I already have plenty of bible thumpers in my organization and everyone plays by the "no proselytizing on work time" rules. I also find that graduates from these kinds of institutions tend to have their heads less up their a$$es than the "prestigious" liberal schools, so there is that.

In my work -- the sciences -- liberty preaches (not teaches) things that are contrary to my work. I am not hiring anyone from there.

Then you shouldn't be a hiring manager

Lol. To those who say hiring managers can't discriminate, I don't think you understand what that word means. Their job is discriminating between qualified and unqualified candidates, including on the basis of academic qualifications. They are not being excluded for their religious beliefs but for their shitty education.
