Lauren Liess new HGTV show

Did anyone catch the pilot of 'Best House on the Block' today? I was just surfing HGTV when the classic DC-rambler neighborhood caught my eye. I'll be curious to see what they do next.

No. I was driving home from beach. Will it re-air later tonight??

I would watch it again mainly because I like her blog, and I like the fact that it's local. But, I'm pretty iffy on the kitchen. Big stove with no hood, just a pop up vent. Tiny sink wedged under open shelves. She put the stove in front of the window and the sink in front of a wall, I would have done the reverse if possible. No upper cabinets at all, just open shelves, not my preference but maybe that works for some so whatever. No backsplash, just drywall (and butcher block counters... another personal preference thing I guess).

I'm not crazy about the art either... especially the dark circle thing in the dining room.

Finally, there was a lot of harping to the effect of "let's go change boring track homes, they're so cookie cutter!" Ever heard of HOAs? You can't always just go paint a brick house grey, change your door color, add your Fixer Upper style shutters, etc. In my neighborhood you need HOA approval just to plant trees.

I like much of what she does, but it seems each project is very similar to the last (open shelving, etc...). Do you think the show will get picked up?

I surprised no one has mentioned the staircase change. She opened it up. Now it has a 1/2 wall on each side. My boys would have been tempted to climb on that thing.

Show got picked up. Thoughts on how it will go over? I'm really surprised she's gotten as much press as she has over the millions of other designers in the area. Maybe it's because her style is so unique?

Her work is interesting. The crazy thing is that she is not a certified interior designer which is something DC regulates pretty heavily.

I'd suspect part of it has to do with being young and pretty and having a big young family: people LOVE to watch that stuff. More power to her.

Very interesting. Did not know she wasn't certified! I guess it works because she is in VA. Does VA not regulate either?

She fits the generic white pair formula for HGTV. Haven't seen the show yet, but I hope it will be less dull than the other shows.

VA and MD do not require it. Tons of decorators and designers are not certified and they are good.

I don't mean to disparage her at all, I'm just saying I think she's a decorator and not a certified interior designer though I could be wrong. HGTV doesn't really get into that discrepancy, but legally it matters in some locations. In VA this is all fine.

I look forward to the show!

Good for her! I know they liked doing the show and wanted it to get picked up.
Personally, I don't know how she does it- they keep having children and she seems to have a ton of things going on. Her family is adorable.

She is also very nice. I ran into her at Lucketts once.
