How much do you normally tip when you go out to eat?

Anonymous
I normally pay a flat tip of $7 regardless of how much the overall bill is. If a waiter/tress really knocks my socks off with service, I'll increase it accordingly. I NEVER tip when I order carryout, and I almost never tip when I go out for drinks. All I ever get a a beer on draft, and really see no point of tipping the barman for pouring a beer.

I tip well, especially if they are very attentive. At least 20% always. More if they are great.

20% for service
10% for buffet
$1 for takeout
$5 for delivery

If you can't afford to tip you can afford takeout/eat out.

You shouldn't be going to eat in restaurants. For a beer, the minimum tip is $1. Tonight I had a $10 drink and I tipped $2.

A $7 tip is fine for a $35 meal, but on a $100 meal, you shouldn't show your face in that restaurant again.

20%.

How the heck did you decide on $7, OP? You should be embarrassed.

You're a cheap jerk. This is not how polite people behave in the US.

Happy now?

$7 is ok if your bill is never more than $35. Otherwise, you are pretty much an asshole.

20-25%
$5 for takeout

Troll. But this will be a 7-page thread

Since my son's both work in restaurants and rely on tips for the bulk of their pay, I tip 20%, unless service is horrible. Tips are often spread among the staff too. That's how my bus boy son earns more than his $3.50 base rate.

I don't drink so can't comment on that, but I tip 20 % on dining in, 10% on take out, and will often but not always tip 1 dollar on a coffee drink.

Bar
Waitstaff
Runners
Bussers

Exactly, there's a lot of tipping out to do. That's why civilized people tip 20%.

You tip a dollar on a draft beer (or even a can) because while the barkeep was helping you they couldn't help anyone else.

People's time is valuable.
