Anonymous wrote:Hi all. My daughter was recently accepted to Visi and another school that frankly made a better effort to attract lacrosse players during the admissions process. I understand there was a coaching transition underway at Visi that made it difficult for them to do the same. My daughter loves Visi and wants to attend, but has open questions about lacrosse. She would love to join a class of good players and play for strong coaches. Seems like the coaching situation is solid for at least for the next several years. Unfortunately, I don’t know know anything about the likely class of incoming players, including top players who actually did get some recruiting interest. Now that offers are out, can anyone comment strong players planning to attend or not? I’m not expecting identifying information, just hoping to hear something about the incoming class. Thanks!

Unless all other factors are equal, she should not choose based on lacrosse.

All else being equal she would prefer to play on a good team and win as much as possible. I am familiar with how college recruiting works and would have no expectations of the school in that area.

Knowing the other school would be useful in advising whether all else is equal. Taking the other historically strong ISL lacrosse schools, SSSAS and Visi are a lot more different outside of lacrosse than SR and Visi.

I have a good understanding of both schools and their lacrosse programs. I also have a good understanding of the 2028 players likely to attend the other school because they did a much better job communicating with me throughout the application process. What I don’t know is anything about the 2028 players going to Visi and was hoping to get some insight here. I have asked the question before on another forum and really did not get a response there either, so I am guessing there is not much to report, which is unfortunate.

I know of two high quality players who are undecided. That is all I have heard through the grapevine.

Can you share club name or the other schools aside from Visi they are considering?

Hope they have been reached out to by Visi. Really hoping they can grab as much talent as possible.

For the 2028 parents reading this board, has anyone reached out? Perhaps a meeting in Sheehy with the coaches and some players? Maybe a Zoom call? An email? Anything?

Why would you expect the Visi coach to reach out to a 2028? He would be long gone by the time the 28s will make an impact. Only 2 maybe 3 2028 will make varsity in freshman year, and maybe 1 will see the field as the team is already super loaded.

Because he is a quality guy who wants to build the program beyond his time there.

It’s not a matter of questioning his quality. It’s a matter of respect for this guy. And it’s a matter of prioritization. He probably has a fairly demanding full time job plus family obligations and is now coaching a competitive high school team. Perhaps organizing a little pep rally for your 8th graders is not as important as current tryouts and picking a winning ISL team this season.

Can’t say but he was just hired a few weeks ago. As a current parent, let’s give him a chance and hope he can sway some of the few undecideds left.

It's not the coach who is to blame here. He just started and deserves some time to ramp. The school should have hired a person, maybe even an entire department, to oversee athletics and tend to these types of things. I will make that suggestion to the administration and report back.

Hey parents of 8th graders recently accepted to Visi, congrats! I hope all of your lacrosse questions have been answered, but if not reach out to someone you know to get what you need. If lacrosse is THE top concern when making this decision, Visi might not be the right place for you. There is so much more to the Visi experience than sports. Come out to the Gold-White events on Saturday and see what it’s all about. I think you’ll see why it is such a special place that is the first and only choice for many girls. Good luck!

Visi has a good shot at landing two more really good players. Maybe the same ones referenced above. Hope it works out. We need young talent.

Glad we are getting one good player. Is that it from the 2028 Class? No Stars? No MD players?

Why would any of the MD players choose Visi over the better schools in the IAAM?
