doctors note to get out of a gym contract

Right?! I saw the date and went to the end specifically to see if OP ever reported back.

Google is the reason so many old threads get bumped now but some of the threads that get bumped are at least funny like this one!

Why don’t you have a sit down with the manager - start crying and ask them to cancel your contract. Or sleep with him.

Well this post was 4 years ago so...

Honestly, OP... perhaps you should learn from this lesson, instead of trying to get out of your obligations.

I’ve learned. Now I don’t want to pay $X every month for the next 15 months.

No, the lesson is that you can pursue your health and fitness goals in that gym until the end of your contract.

See? Still haven't learned.

Meh. Gyms screw over members regularly--cancelling classes, changing hours etc. They should expect the same treatment.

This. They would only give me 90 days. I was hit by a car and not allowed to do any non-PT stuff from 6 months! They told me I could use the sauna and tanning bed. I’m AA and also have a chronic illness exacerbated by heat. I finally cancelled my debit card and wrote them a letter that my doctor was prepared to testify in small claims court. They never pursued it.

Good for you, but you shouldn't have had top jump through such hoops top get out if it.
I hope you're feeling better now.

OP, like someone else said, you KNEW you had your endometriosis when you signed up for the gym, most likely knew you needed surgery too, so you can't blame it on that.

I wouldn't advise you with going this PP's route either because if they require documentation of the accident or anything that would prove your claim, you are SO f#cked.

F#cked?. At worst, OP back where she started.

Crossfit owners are not the brightest bunch, as these posts show.

I (stupidly) signed an 18 month gym contract. 3 months into it and I’m over it. I need a new gym/routine.

I don’t have the contract in front of me now. My friend said you can get out of any contract with a doctors note.

I’m going to the doctor this week and I guess I’ll ask for a note...? Saying what I’m not sure but I like the doctor and I think he’ll write it.

Will the gym accept it and let me go? Or will I have to pay hefty fees?

Why would you ask a professional to lie and compromise his ethics? Because you want to get out of the gym contract you signed??!!

That is appalling.

OP and the manager could have a toddler by now!

Why would you put them in such an awkward position by making an appointment and asking them to commit fraud on their license?

It’s truly not a lie. I joined this super intense gym and it’s too hard for me. It’s causing pain to some scar tissue. And more. I didn’t know it would be a problem and the “check with a physician before you exercise” didn’t help because it only hurts NOW.

OP is this the kind of gym where you have to do a specific regimen? If so, don’t they have trainers on site whi can work with you to modify the workouts for you? Maybe you think this would be embarrassing somehow but if it’s going to physically injure you to participate then this seems legit.
They won’t want to lose you as a client so I bet they would be happy to figure out a way to make it work where you didn’t feel like it was a total waste.

Honestly agree with just hooking up with the manager - they are usually hot and willing to help a lady out.

There must be some way to utilize the gym without injury. Just don’t overdo on anything.
If I was your doctor, I’d think you were nuts and resent asking me to lie.

Let’s say I joined cross fit. I didn’t but it’s a somewhat similar gym. I’m hoping for an dismissal because I need a more gentle gym. Honestly legitimate; I’m not fit enough for this. I was stupid to sign up.

Have you asked them for a way to scale the workouts? I do CrossFit (I'm not rabid about it though) and we have a 78-year old woman who does the workouts with us, but just scaled for her.

I've never done Orange Theory or the other HIIT places, so maybe there isn't a way to scale it.

I'm glad I skipped to the end - I was going to say, the only time I've ever heard of anyone getting out of a gym contract was during covid!! I loved my gym, but there was no way I was going to pay while they were closed, so was able to cancel the contract. Hopefully OP was able to get out of it before now LOL.
