Will Republicans get support from Hispanics by helping passing immigration reform?

As the OP, I am sorry that what was intended as a thread about whether immigration reform would accrue to benefit of Republicans or Democrats, has morphed into posts that verge on racist attacks.

Don't apologize, this is a great discussion.

What you've got are people crying racism because they disagree that minorities are taken advantage by political parties when they, as one poster put it, put all their eggs on one basket. But it's not racism, that's just a diversionary tactic and it doesn't work. It's a legitimate observation and could just as easily come into play with Hispanics and any immigration bill that may be coming down the pipeline.

Yeah... no it isn't. That immigrants and poor people want "free goodies" as opposed to fairness is something Republicans say a lot, but that doesn't make it more true.

Some of the discussion is entirely valid especially with regard to some of the points that Smiley and West have made. And yes, the unqualified support that African-Americans have given to the Democratic party leaves them vulnerable in terms of their interests being secondary when Republicans are in office. It also causes the Democrats to take them for granted because they have no where else to turn. It is the inflammatory language that is unfortunate and unproductive.

Having said this, the Republican party has really not done much to try and attract African-American support because a segment of the Republican party espouses views that are, frankly, racist. It probably has its roots in Nixon's Southern strategy.

Sort of. Reagan provided subsidized phone service to the poor. Bush extended it to mobile phones.

South Africa must put an end to the poverty of blacks, America with its resources should show by example. The blacks worked without salary for 200 years, so this is something owed to them

I agree. Let's do something right now.

OK, everyone on this board who ever owned a slave, pony up.

everyone who is old money or has inherited wealth has benefited from it. Slavery was replaced by discrimination, got into legislation as segregation

That may be true--but I don't think that most people inherited wealth.

That money was a huge pot and has not disappeared into the corners of the world. It made many many people prosperous and wealthy andpriveledged and their descendants inherited that status and were able to maintain their standing

What is your point? Are you saying that every prosperous person inherited wealth?

Can't feel sorry for someone who's stupid enough to vote 90% for the same political party. Cornell West and Tavis Smiley have noted this for years.

Democratic politicians are evil-lite. Republican politicians are devil spawn evil. We choose to vote for the least of the two evils.

+1

Both parties are evil.
