Do you think the Scientologists are blackmailing Tom Cruise

His ex moving on with another man ISN’T A LEADING MAN HEADLINE.

Tom is a true believer. He’s a brainwashed cult member. He is a god in Scientology and he’s addicted to that adulation and obviously he’s driven in some weird way because he is very popular and not likely to suffer from any revelation of sexuality.

But if all the truth of how he treated his wives/mothers of his children came out, he would likely be cancelled. Notice Katie says nothing about him - the NDA associated with her marriage dissolution must be ironclad and was likely lucrative above and beyond the $400k/yr she gets for child support.

Maybe Tom is gay, maybe not. He’s definitely more than a little cuckoo.

Unfortunate she didn’t consider that before choosing to have a kid with him. And then later marrying him.

Katie Holmes was 25 when she met Tom Cruise, a man she had harbored a keen crush for while a teen. She was coming off the breakup of an engagement and a man almost twice her age with a ton of charisma swept her off her feet. She was pregnant 3 months into the relationship.

Didn’t you ever do anything stupid when you were only in your early 20s?

I have nothing but huge respect for Katie Holmes - a great many women marry men who turn out to be duds and a danger to their kids, and many women don’t have the courage to leave. Obviously it helped that she was going to get very generous child support and that she had a divorce lawyer father who could set it all up for her to make the exit easy - but still, she did a very good thing and was only 32 leaving the biggest box office star of recent years and taking on a crazy ass cult by walking away from him. Good job, Katie!

Did you really just say this? You think dating, getting engaged, getting pregnant, and then marrying him was “doing something stupid in your 20s?”

Dp- yeah. Getting swept off your feet in a whirl wind romance with Tom freakin’ Cruise is def doing something stupid in your 20’s. And on paper it looks awesome at first glance.
Until it doesn’t and she has to run from a cult.
Ya win some, ya lose some.

I recall her called her "Kate"...it was charming, but also gave me pause because her name was and is "Katie". It was as if he was trying to erase her identity or something.

Something about that really squicked me out.

Isn't Scientology's whole thing about "going clear" that they hook you up to some weird lie detector-like thing and ask you your darkest secrets. And then they have your secrets.

Exactly this.

I always assumed for Holmes to have exited so rapidly and cleanly that something really crazy or extreme happened. Maybe she saw a level of his crazy that just completely shattered her own deep fog (and she definitely was in a haze herself). So yea, she played her cards well with the info she had. As for Cruise, I also vote true believer, zealot, just deeply enmeshed at this point. As others were including Kirstie Alley, Kelly Preston, etc. Decades and millions invested. Tom Cruise has a lot of psychological issues, a well developed facade of affability and a lot of power and money. Of course they have sh*t on him. But he keeps himself tethered there, he made that choice decades ago. He made his choice.

Being gay, if that were true, would be the least of his issues. Lest we be tempted to see the funny, nice guy veneer as the real Cruise, I remind all of us of the intensity and enormous rage that exists in Tom Cruise

Not the point. He would make comments along the lines of Katie being a little girl's name and Kate being a woman's name. When you take away someone's agency regarding their own name, it's icky.

God, I can't even imagine what being married to this man would be like if you have even a small amount of your own thinking, individual mind and identity. ...He is so incredibly arrogant, sanctimonious, angry and unequivocally certain of his own ideas. Black and white, us versus them, in versus out, good versus evil. That's his world view. Do they have sh*t on him? How about the likelihood that he has and uses sh*t on everyone else. They say he is second in command. I believe it.

My friend who has a PhD in psychology went in for their "free test" thing out of curiosity and said it was a multiple choice test and after he was done they told him he was angry and depressed (some rando volunteers, no clinicians in sight) and got super-annoyed when he asked them questions about how they were making those assertions.
