Trump calls for government ethics reform

Anonymous
Here are the 5 reforms Trump announced:

- Reinstate a five-year ban to prevent executive branch officials from lobbying after they leave office and prevent an executive action from lifting it.

- Introduce a similar five-year ban on former members of Congress from lobbying after ending government service.

- Expand the definition of lobbyists and close loopholes that allow former government officials to label themselves as consultants and advisers. [Example: John Podesta, Cheryl Mills, Donna Brazile (not sure she was in the government or not), and other HRC's close allies all own their own consulting firms.]

- Lifetime ban on senior executive branch officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.

- Campaign finance reform that prevents registered foreign lobbyists from raising money in American elections and politics. [Example: Jennifer Palmieri from HRC campaign, "Take the money !!!" when discussing whether to take money from foreign agents]

Term limits for all elected officials and political appointees. In the aggregate so you can't hop from one house to another to another branch. Set term in all of government. Then go home.

Sounds good to me. Let’s make it retroactive. Then, Hillary wouldn’t be eligible!!

Exactly. And Cheney would have been blocked from administration positions. Kerry would be out.

This should be public service. Not a lifelong career.

I loathe Trump, and I agree. Why didn't he propose this earlier, for God's sake?

That would require an amendment. People that cry for term limits should just accept that it will never happen.

Ummm, what about that silly little thing called the Constitution? And you can't people from lobbying on behalf of a foreign government. You also realize, of course, the many governments own commercial enterprises. More vague, unworkable nonsense from the Trump camp.

Term limits don't prevent politicians from holding power. They just jump from one office to another. Term limits do, however, constrain voters from re-electing good leaders. They also make freshman politicians much more reliant on lobbyists and career staffers who have the institutional knowledge. And you as a voter can't fire them.

Just make sure you are an educated voter. And the rest will take care if itself.

You honestly think the very people this law would affect would vote for this? It's like the loophole that allows Congress members to legally trade with insider information. They wouldn't close that loophole.

They can still lobby. They just can not donate to political candidates like they are doing it right now supporting Hillary. How is this not constitutional?

The right leaning SCOTUS struck down campaign contribution limits by corporations. You think a Republican leaning Congress would vote to disallow them becoming lobbyists when they can make $$$ on it?

Did you send this to Trump? He just added term limits proposal in a later speech in Colorado. This one is going to be a constitution amendment. He proposed six years for congress and twelve years for senate.
