Development at Superfresh in AU park

Anonymous
I saw a lawn sign on Mass this morning saying "stop massive development at Superfresh."

Anyone know what the current state of planning is for that site?

Please let it be a WalMart! Heads in AU Park would explode over that. HA!

A target would be nice. Or another grocery store.

I saw those signs too. Not sure what's up. How massive can the development be - it's a very small site (unless it includes the old AU law school building).

Wow that's kind of insane. I do not support!

How on earth does that fit into that site? It's 1/4 of a square block. I guess this includes the hair salon and the restaurant but obviously doesn't include the old law school or the CVS. Even with the pictures I'm not visualizing it.

The conversation really boils down to:

1) Do you want the new building with a grocery store or

2) Do you want the new building without the grocery store.

The building proposed is basically matter of right, though some neighbors disagree with that legal assessment. The same theory was presented in opposition to the matter of right 5333 Connecticut Avenue. The neighbors lost in that assessment as well.

So, put it another way, do people want a grocery store in their neighborhood, or do they want to continue to drive to wherever else to get their food?

I'd rather have nothing than that!

And that's why we can't get nice things.

Keep in mind, the property taxes, income taxes and sales taxes these future residents would pay would help pay for all of the things we do as a society. Having residents live closer in helps reduce our collective carbon footprint and thus impacts climate change.

I guess you are a Trump voter then.

They are worried students will move in, that's what this is about.

Not really, the students are now at Nebraska and Wisconsin since the law school has moved. I suspect they'll migrate to the housing over near Tenley Town since it is Metro friendly and more selection. I live in the area, would love to see some type of senior condominiums for all of our aging population that want to stay in the community. And, come on, it has been such wasted space for so long with a really crappy grocery store. Just don't put a whole foods there and give our seniors a chance to stay near their families in the same community

I think the area is over saturated with Whole Foods. I doubt that would be on the table. More likely a Harris Teeter or Trader Joe's type place.

Harris Teeter would be nice or there's a new market coming to the area that is locally sourced fresh meats and food, that would be nice. I think the rendering is nice, and let's face it, anything bigger than the ugly parking garage and adjoining parking lot will anger the never build people. But there is room and a desirability for something there, this isn't bad.

It beats the Westbard development by a mile!
