Development at Superfresh in AU park

I think the rendering is nice, and let's face it, anything bigger than the ugly parking garage and adjoining parking lot will anger the never build people. But there is room and a desirability for something there, this isn't bad.

What's so great about Harris Teeter? I've been to one when on vacation, and found it to be a conventional grocery store that's simply more expensive than Wholefoods. Would much rather see a Trader Joe's.

Looks good to me. I live in AU Park, and I'd say the more development in the area, the better. I do hope that the residential buildings would be built with adequate parking though.

The AU in AU Park stands for American University. Its already student central.

Oh, your (sic) one of those DCUM bitches?

I do the majority of my shopping at Wholefoods, but I'm not a snob and do like Trader Joe's for certain things. They are awesome for nuts, nut butters, yogurt, various international pantry staples, cheese, etc., you should check it out some time.

Chill peeps. I'd heard rumors that people would fight over supermarkets but I never thought I'd see the day when someone had Harris Teeter in one corner, Whole Foods in another, and Trader Joe's in a 3rd. It's not that important. At all.

15:16 here and I completely agree. My question about Harris Teeter was an honest one - from my occasional use of this chain, I don't understand why people are eager to have one in the neighborhood when there are already several Wholefoods, but maybe I'm missing something.

I hope the mayor puts at least some homeless housing there, there is no reason the same areas keep getting all of it. Also maybe a few dozen low income housing units for single mothers and their kids so that those kids can get the benefits of Janney and bring some diversity to the school which it sorely needs.

Maybe Wagshal's will move in there? LOL!

I have a feeling it comes down to A) housing with grocery store or B) housing. So I vote for A. I don't think there is a C) Just grocery store option on the table, folks.

Signed, an AU Pk resident.

That's actually my biggest worry.

Then again, I live a few blocks away. If I lived in front, I'd be up in arms.

I live in AU Park. I'm sick of a small group of residents fighting every development.
It would be great to have a grocery store there along with senior housing.
We have a metro stop. The area should be built up. Yes, at times that can be inconvenient.
Maybe you won't find a parking spot right in front of your house 100% of the time, but it absolutely makes sense for this neighborhood to have density.
Most big cities don't even have single family homes.

Yes people who live in the city should not be able to buy themselves out of the things that characterize city living: density and diversity, economic and racial.
