So many, many years ago I took a couple of international trips with other high schoolers which had been set up by this guy, Jeremy Blyth who then was a kind of wunderkind altruistic multi millionaire. These were life changing trips in only positive ways.
And now I discover that the guy is responsible for these schools, one of which is in our area, Blyth Academy. Does anyone have first hand experience of this school? I would love your thoughts. My kids aren't old enough quite yet for HS but its on my radar now. |
| I was considering the school for my son who is entering high school this fall. I was thoroughly impressed. We won't be enrolling due to the distance from our house. Most of the kids ride the metro in. School is from 9:00 - 4:40. The head of the school used to be head of upper school at Sidwell. I was very impressed and would highly recommend. |
Thank you for your reply! |
| Does there math progression look OK to you guys? I was thinking my son would be taking Algebra II in 9th grade, but that doesn't seem to be available at Blyth-Templeton. |
| Nevermind! it looks like he could do Algebra II. Perhaps he would need to test into it or something. It's tempting! |
| It doesn't appear to be accredited. |
in 2016 it received Candidacy Accreditation from the Middle States Association |
Schools is not from 9-4:40. Students take TWO courses at a time. Those hours are for three courses. So if they had period 1&3 then that would be the hours. Otherwise, they are done at 2:10 or they start school at 11:50. |
I believe it's Sam Blyth, I think he is Canadian. |
I think you're right - thank you. |
We were also considering it and may end up there eventually. Very impressive for the right kid (very small). I think both posters above are correct, 9-4:40. Two classes and they end early, but have a mandatory study period. |
Exactly, which means it is not yet accredited. |
I dont think that matters. The school is on tack fo accreditation and is based on a educational system which has proven successful in other cities. |
| We toured with our DD, and I was impressed also. In our back pocket as an alternative if social and other problems continue where she is now. (Her decision to stay.) Seems like a great place for kids who may be overwhelmed by the pressure-cooker atmosphere that infects so many schools in DC. |
what neighborhood? |
