ISO a pediatric dentist in NW DC

Anonymous
We are in Woodley Park so somewhere in NW DC would be preferable. My daughter is pretty shy and very nervous about doctors. Looking for a dentist who will distract her and make this a pleasant experience not a traumatizing one!!

I have heard good things about Dr. Alan Kuwabara in Friendship Heights. I live in Arlington, but because 2 people recommended him to me I am taking my son to him next week. My son also had a bad experience the first time he went to the dentist so I am hoping this is a better experience!

My son had his 1st dentist visit with Dr. Kuwabara last week. My son is shy and was not thrilled about the process [note: We should have practiced more - 'show me how you open up wide for the dentist' ... but that is a different post]

Anyway, I was very impressed. He is very mild mannered, took it slow with my son, didn't force anything. I would think that his POV is that it is about building a lifelong relationship with a dentist and starting off on the right foot for dental care. My son was not interested in sitting in the dentist chair so I held him and all Dr. Kuwabara did was a quick look of his teeth. He did not try X rays or to clean them, we are saving that for future visists.

His office is on WI just South of Rodmans. There is parking behind the building.

Dana Greenwald is also terrific; also in Friendship Hts. She's great with kids, has a wonderful upbeat manner, while also being very reassuring. She explains everything to parents in a very clear and comprehensive way. Excellent, friendly staff. Best recommendation I can give: when she told DD that she should sort her Halloween candy and throw out all the sticky, sugary stuff, DD immediately went home and did so!

Dana Greenwald is also terrific

Sadly, Dana Greenwald is not taking new patients and hasn't for some time.

Dr Ricardo Perez in Chevy Chase is also great. He does not take health insurance, however

you have to keep calling Dr. Greenwald. She opens up for new patients apparently b/c when I called last month we got an appt for July. I had called a few months ago and she was closed to new patients at that time. Some of my friends also got appointments with her recently. We haven't been yet so I can't comment on her really.

We use Dr. Maggie Irvin at Penski Irvin in Tenleytown. They are in the townhouses behind the Best Buy and Container Store. Both my kids (ages 4.5 and 3) have had great experiences at the practice. My 3 year old went for the first time two weeks ago and I was sure she wouldn't let them touch her, but Cynthia, the hygienist, was soooo great with her that she sat through an entire cleaning + exam by Dr. Irvin. It truly was a miracle. http://www.penski-irvin.com/
