Can anyone recommend a bakery that does beautiful, custom designed birthday cakes here in the Metro DC area? Closer to North Arlington would be preferable. Also, I've ordered some cakes from Randolphs and Krupins and have not been happy with them. Thanks. |
How about Heidelberg Bakery - on Lee Hwy, I think. They are great. |
Big second vote for Heidelburg - I have out of state relatives that come in for family events just to eat their white chocolate mouse cake. I promise you won't be disappointed with that cake. |
Heidelberg all the way. As PP said, on Lee Hwy a few blocks east of Lee-Harrison Shopping Center. |
One more for vote Old Heidelberg. We're especially fans of the almond-flavored pound cake, but everything is good!! (We tasted all the flavors years ago when we picked our wedding cake. Yum!)
|
Yet another Heidelberg vote! We had them make our wedding cake as well, and people still talk about how yummy it was (8 years later!)!! |
OK - I am also a huge fan of the Heidelberg BUT do they do "beautiful, custom designed birthday cakes "?
They did our wedding cake - it was really good - people still talk about it etc etc but it was very traditional. If you are looking for something a little more unique, I might not recommend them. |
OP here...I love heidelberg too, but not sure about their custom designs! I want something that looks beautiful and tastes good! Thanks everyone. |
HUGE FAN OF RANDOLPHS - Great tasting & look great!! |
Randolfs cakes do need to be brought to room temperature as instructed. I love them.
There's also Alexandria Pastry in Alexandria on the Arlington border. Not as close as you would like, but excellent and very different from Randolfs. |
if you're willing to go out to Fairfax, Amphora has some really great cakes. They did the cakes for my friend's wedding, and man, did I enjoy that cake tasting. |
Actually, the Amphora is in Vienna and I agree they do have great cakes. But since you mentioned Fairfax, Victoria's Cakery is wonderful. My husband bought my birthday cake there this year and the frosting was perfect! |
A mom I know from an old playgroup owns a business called Monster Cookie Company. I was at a birthday party last month and she had made the cake and cupcakes for it. They were delicious.
I don't have the contact info- I would just google it. I also think it's great to support a really small business. She does it all out of her house. |
I found the website: http://www.monstercookieco.com/ |
If you want a gorgeous cake, check out Kendall's Cakes at http://www.kendallscakes.com/. She also makes her cakes out of her house, and, in addition to being blown-away gorgeous, they taste amazing. |
