If you eat something and immediate regret it and feel like it isn't sitting right with you, is it wrong to make yourself throw it up? Not on a regular basis, but only when something really makes you feel off and you want it out of your system immediately. Is it a big deal if it's only done on a rare occasion? |
Yes. I think it's a big deal and it represents abnormal behavior. |
Rare occasion like once every 5-10 years? Fine. Monthly or quarterly? No ok. |
Yes, it is a big deal. Because most bulimics (myself for 10 years) start out only doing this on rare occasions. Then it becomes once a week. Then it becomes three times a week. Then it becomes every day. Then you start planning it out -- today I'm going to get a dozen donuts and make myself throw up.
OP, you are not on a good track here. |
Yes. It's wrong, OP. |
I do it about once or twice a year. I always have. Never more, maybe less some years. If I feel gross, I like to stop feeling gross. I have absolutely no eating disorder. |
I do this about once every year or so. I have a very sensitive stomach and there are times when I will eat something at a restaurant that just does not sit well. The best way to describe it is a "brick in my tummy". The last time I did it was after I ate a salad. Once I made myself throw up, I was all better.
How often and why this is being done, is what is key here.. If it happening often or because of a fear of weight gain/appearance than that would be cause for concern. |
Yes. Normal people never make themselves throw up. |
This is physical. |
And the list of foods you will not allow yourself to digest gets longer and longer. |
Yeah I'm not sure that's healthy. I eat clean most of the time (say 80% of the time), but on rare occasions at restaurants, I eat something that doesn't sit well with me. I take note of where I ate and what I eat and I don't go there again. If the food bloats me, I'll take a gas x or tums. That's it. |
No, it is completely normal to do this if you are talking about once a year or so, and "disgusting" has no emotional component to it. If you think you've poisoned yourself, throw up. If you just overate, suck it up and feel gross for a few hours. |
The very notion that you are dividing food into "bad" and good" is disordered. Food is food. It is fuel for your body. It's fine to have treats and indulgences. So not a big deal. |
That would be a once in a lifetime type of thing. This is not normal. |
If it's not a 'guilt/omg I ate SO much/that was a lot of calories' thing but an actual 'I'm in physical pain' thing then it's fine every few years I guess. I've never done it but I'm not a big overeater. Define 'rare'- several times a year sounds like a lot to not know your own body.
I have needed to vomit and been on the verge (morning sickness) and just stuck my finger down to get over the misery more quickly. Also one time I ate a banana that just turned my stomach and I didn't even have to use my finger, I barely made it to the bathroom to be sick. |
