Shady Grove Adventist delivery

Hello- I am interest to hear about relatively recent experiences delivering at Shady Grove. What was good and what wasn't?

Delivered in July 2015 and no complaints. Most of the nurses were stellar, Rooms fine. The first LC didn't catch a pretty severe tongue and lip tie, so I would be sure to ask about that if you have issues breastfeeding. I don't think we'll be having a second child but if we did I would definitely go back to Shady grove!

I've delivered twice at Shady Grove. Both very good experiences, but I do have some strong words of advice (likely applicable to all hospitals).

I contracted a horrific super bug from Shady Grove. Absolutely insist that all medical staff wash their hands before touching you or the baby (NO HAND SANITIZER - this stuff doesn't kill the super bugs and only spreads it). I had really awesome recovery nurses and one super horrible one. I didn't realize until after my stay that you can easily request a new nurse. I would have saved myself a lot of heartache if I had done this. The nurse was just awful about pressuring me about a circ for my boy and making me feel ridiculous about not wanting to take insanely potent pain relief medication for a non-c-section birth. She made me cry multiple times.

Oh! One more thing! (sorry) the lactation nurse system SUCKS! Instead of coming to your room, they make you walk to a central location where all mothers participate. I could barely walk, but had to walk down the hall to the meeting. My husband pushed my baby because I could barely get myself down there. He never even came in the room, but the lactation nurse started freaking out when she saw my husband by the door yelling that men were not allowed. I was so pissed. I don't know why they are so lazy and can't come to your room...especially if they don't allow for a time in the beginning for husbands to help you get settled before we whip out our boobs. It was ridiculous. I was a hurting mess, but was somehow supposed to get myself to a room and lift my baby without any assistance. She also told me everything I was doing was wrong (super loud and in front of a room full of mothers), yet, was told by others that my baby had an awesome latch and I was doing great. Sorry - just remembering the trauma of that.

Apart from these issues, I really liked Shady Grove. The rooms were super comfortable, they have some laboring tubs available, almost all of the staff (except those mentioned above) were absolutely super, and I felt really, really comfortable.
