By Show of Hands...How Many of Your Schools Have Had Teachers Leave Already?

Anonymous
I know that last year 100 of the new hires were gone by Oct. 1.

I also know that this year at least 2 teachers at one of the high schools was gone by Sept 1.

How are other schools faring?

Ok up here in one JKLMM school.

None at my Capitol Hill school.

Hmmmm...so am I to assume that most of the departures are from schools whose parents are not likely to post on here?

Considering it isn't quite Oct. 1st it might be premature to speculate. Most of the hemorrhaging begins around Thanksgiving when report cards hit.

Why would report cards lead to hemorrhaging? BTW the exodus begins EARLY. A few left before Sept 1. And I know of 3 more planning their exits now--from the same HS.

That's crazy that 100 teachers leave in the first month! Are they getting better offers, do they suck so bad they are sacked, or what?

None so far. Way too early. Come on.

Last year at our public charter two assistants had left by now. Two weeks later the lead teacher left. It was awful.

Hearst. 4th grade. Not sure the deal but it wasn't good. Teacher bailed, I think.

They were all teachers who were new to DCPS. I suspect they came, realized the how difficult it is to teach students who aren't interested in learning in a building where there's no repercussion for students who cuss teachers out and intefere with teaching and learnng on a daily basis. Some schools are also terribly disorganized and many teachers decided they didn't want to be Impacted under those conditions.

100 in the first month was just the beginning. Teachers leave all during the year. The minute another job comes through, they're out!

No they are not fired.

that was a unique issue with the teacher, nothing to do with the school.

100% this. Many leave the teaching profession all together after this. I know quite a few. Sad really.

In the olden days of DC, the question would be about who had no textbooks or AC. We are now a town of Shinola and Filson.
