My DD is now 7, has autism.... and we are feeling its getting harder to take her out.

What do you guys think? Will this day come? Does that mean we can really never ever travel?

Especially reading the comments really makes me sad, angry and really wondering what life will be in the future

Hugs OP. The people in the world may not always be kind to you and your child. It sucks.

Can you travel--of course. But you may not be able to travel the way you want to. Would it be easier to drive than to fly? Probably because then you remain in control. But of course that limits where you can travel to.

Remember this is a really bad example. The flight attendant seems to be an idiot. Not saying you won't encounter them in your life but most people are pretty reasonable and accommodating.

That case is ridiculous - seen a million kids more disruptive on planes with no unplanned landings...

Some kids with autism fly OK/well and some don't. Just like all other kids. With some planning and prepping, things can be better. Some airports offer programs for children with autism.. where they can acclimate/practice pre-flight..

My son (HFA) flies very well, he actually loves it

If it's getting harder to take her out, it may be time for different therapies or approaches. I am finding this to be true for my child with different types of behaviors emerging. We really need to add a behavioral therapist.

My dad has Alzheimer's and we can't travel anymore. He lives with us and needs 24 supervision. We still go to the grocery, barber, and Walmart sometimes. But the trips are fewer and farther in between. We make the most of what we can do together, but sometimes it's hard. I am the only one who can keep him calm, but he gets very confused sometimes when we're out. In the summer we rent a lake or beach house instead of flying anywhere.
