Does anyone feel they made the wrong school choice?

Aidan Montessori was absurd and overpriced. Kid's going to Deal next year. Can't believe I can't get a refund actually. What a rip.

Too many people put their kids into Montessori education without a clue about what it means. Personally I find the philosophy way too structured and Pavlovian.

True. We went for a tour and were shocked. I didn't want my child using an education system that was developed for mentally retarded children. Once you know that piece all their teachings makes sense. That's why everything should be put exactly back in it's place, that's why they emphasize certain life skills, that's why they seem like they don't interact--keeping focused at the task at hand, etc. I'm sure most kids can handle it and adjust later, but were were creeped out by the kids basically walking past each other in a world of their own and not really interacting with each other.

You articulated it much better than I did.

Aidan was the best educational $$ we have spent. Montessori was great for our child and we know she will never have a teacher as wonderful as she had at Aidan. If the commute was not such a problem she would stay for elementary. This is one of the schools in America offering a real 21st century education. We made sacrifices to afford the tuition and make the drive but feel it was a bargain at the end of the primary years.

What the hell are you talking about? Why are you dense and diffuse?
One might ask the same of you.

Dense and diffuse? A bit contradictory, don't you think? Sticking with the aliteration, you could try "discrete."
Or even "discreet." Best to be correct when one's being patronizing, don't you think?

14:17. I am a Montesori teacher. All Montessori schools and teachers are not the same. Please do not judge on that one experience. I interpret Montessori very differently than you do.

PP, did your kid stay in Aidan through the upper elementary school? We were over the top impressed by Aidan during our school visit at their lower elementary classrooms. I thought the depth and spread of the material covered was really advanced and keep the kids curious and interested. Really surprised with your remark

Current Aidan parent. I have some concerns about the size of the cohorts in elementary at the school but have no issues with the curriculum which is really great. Very impressive not only in terms of the content covered but in terms of how it is interconnected, follows a logic (how the world came to be...), etc. What did you think was absurd about the program?

Barrie School was horrible. I cannot generalize for all Montessori schools but at least Barrie was really bad for my daughter. She was even bullied and the teacher didn't care.

Sidwell – I learned (the hard way) that Sidwell is a school that students attend because their parents want them there for a variety of reasons (some valid, some selfish) – Sidwell is not a school where the children want to be. It is tragic to see a child’s youth sacrificed on the altar of parental ambition. Most of those kids are not happy.
