Car dealer lied to me, what are my rights?

OP, you need to look for the narrowest carseat out there first. That would be a radian. If you put 2 radians (each outboard) you MAY be able to fit a skinny person or a booster seat in the middle. You need to try different seat combinations, but the radians (now called Diono radian) are the narrowest 5 pt harness seats currently made. I know ppl get them for their very hard 3 in a row backseat situations. I've also learned that when purchasing a car with small children, take all your carseats and install them in the cars you are looking at (for future reference) b/c the sales ppl know absolutely nothing.

Most cars can, actually. Especially with narrower carseats. We used to have a Ford Taurus (2004 model) and could fit 3 carseats easily. They weren't even carseats that were designed to fit 3 across (a Britax, a Safeseat, and a Safety 1st seat - I forget the model). The carseat.org forum has an entire thread devoted to successful installations with 3 across.

I also own a RAV4 and this is the first time I've notices that issue with the backseat! I'm not very experienced at buying cars!

You couldn't look in the backseat and see it wouldn't work???

You didn't read the thread before spilling this one, did you?

Yeah, I did and she said some nonsense about how she bought the car pre-kids and never looked at a car seat, blah, blah.blah.

It doesn't take a genius to turn around and look at the seat belt when it's fastened and realize only a very small child would fit in that space with anything -person or seat - seated next to it. Really,

Dude, even if the Rav 4 would fit 3 carseats, you will have a toddler and 2 infants. You will have too much stuff to fit in that car. How would you even get the middle kid in the carseat? That's a tight squeeze. Trade it in and get a minivan or SUV.

Next time, take your carseats with you and install them in cars you are looking to purchase. It seems silly, but really it is a good idea.

This is the most important sentence on this thread.

No, you have no recourse, OP.

+1

OP, if you go to buy a new car, you will need a better approach. Don't believe the salesman or his boss. Remember that one way dealers make money is to pay you under market value for your trade-in. Look up the recent thread on this forum titled, how to go about buying a car. There's a link in that thread to an article written by a reporter who went undercover as a salesman to learn how the industry works. Read that article and the rest of the thread. GL.

OP, this is why parents of multiples generally buy minivans, or vehicles with three-row seating. I could tell you simply by looking at the back seat of a RAV 4 that it wasn't going to hold three car seats.

The only "right" you have is to sell your vehicle and get one that's more suitable to your needs.

I'd take this as a sign that you'd be much happier with a minivan. 2 year rav4 probably has lots of value for a trade in.
