Car dealer lied to me, what are my rights?

When I bought the car I was just getting married. I saw carseats before on TV. I never saw them in person (our friends were all single by that time). I asked the right questions at that time and trusted the person - almost - since I read the manual in front of him and he rolled his eyes.

You can seat 3 people if 1 of them is OK with the other's seatbelt inside his butt crack.

Where would you want to seat?

I was not even pregnant when we bought the car and now, DC is 4mo old and I'm pregs with twins AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

What does this have to do with the car salesman? Not a lawyer but I doubt you would get very far because you could have looked up everything about this car on the internet. This was your stupidity so stop blaming the car salesman. Caveat Emptor.

If you weren't pregnant at time of purchase and now you are pregnant with twins (ever hear of family planning?) how did you know you would need 3 carseats?

What a jerk!

I'm the OP and how dare you throw this stupid comment like this? So do you think I should get an abortion just because my car does not fit 3 children? Or maybe I should just get a hysterectomy so I will never have this problem again, right?

It was a surprise for us (the fact that there were 2 babies) and I could not be happier. My mom is a twin, her mom is a twin and we're the happiest family on Earth right now. Sorry if you were not a wanted child. You should seek help to deal with your frustrations.

This is the most important sentence on this thread.

No, you have no recourse, OP.

If you were concerned, you try fitting a few people back there or bring car seats with you. There are small car seats, including the infant carriers (keyfit 22) and Corroco (which is made for smaller cars). A salesperson is to sell - of course they will tell you anything and technically you can fit 5 people back there. That is a small SUV, not a mid-sided - any of the car reviews will tell you its not huge. If your needs have changed in the last two years, it isn't his fault either as you selected the car. Where is your responsibility in any of this?

Time for a minivan.

You have no rights. Car salesmen lie. And - the whole carseat thing is so confusing (which seats fit in which cars), you can't expect them to really know what will fit. Sure, sure, there is no way you would have known this prior to having kids. I find it odd you would have even asked (sad that had the foresight to ask and got the wrong answer). But I think you have to chaulk this up to a lesson learned - never take car seat advice from a car salesman. Actually, never take any advice from them. Go online or ask someone who already owns the vehicle. My go-to car advice person is now my friend with four kids. I figure - if anyone knows who makes a kid friendly car - it is her

Congrats on the twins!

OP - time to take responsibility for your actions (not the pregnancy - congrats on that) but buying a car that would pretty clearly NOT fit 3 carseats.

You can't go around blaming everybody else for your own mistakes...it isn't like car salesmen are known for their ethics...

Now, FF to TODAY and I went all over the place trying to figure out how to install 2 carseats in the back and sit one adult or install 3 carseats and the news from Toyota customer service: I regret to inform you ma'am that you can only seat 2 people at a time in the back seat of your RAV4.

WTF? I'm sooooooooooo MAD! Do I have any rights here or I'm just totally screwed?

Sorry to hear about all this. I'm super confused though. Do you want to put two car seats in the back plus room for an adult? Or do you want to put three car seats in the back? (How would you get the middle baby out, lol)

Also, when you say "what are my rights?" what are you looking for? What rights do you think you have in this situation? I'm not being mean or snarky at all I'm just wondering what one would think could be done with this. If you bought the car 2 years ago from a person who may or may not work there anymore, and being upset with something that may or may not have been said, what -could- be done?

My SIL had a RAV4, after having a second baby she gave it to other SIL. Then when THAT SIL had a second baby they got rid of it.

I wish you luck.

just a warning - not all minivans can fit 2 carseats across the back row - so if this is the direction you are moving - take carseats with you and install them before you buy.

install the infant seat, the convertable FF and RF and see how it is going to be to get 3 kids in and out

Then trade it in for something else, duh

I don't think you need to worry much. With 3 kids in roughly a year, you really aren't going to be getting out much anyway!!

Do you really love your Suburban? My neighbor has been complaining constantly about filling up her gas tank. It's EXPENSIVE!
