Jolie no longer. Her abuse to Pitt has ruined her reputation in HW. That’s why she’s now producing Broadway play. They won’t like her there much longer. |
Because it was a good story. Has she carried any movie since? |
Another good story and she had some draw back then but her personal life and her vindictiveness has ruined her career. |
Tom Holland |
lol what? She's still 1000% an A lister. She's only producing the play because of daughter and I am pretty sure it's up for multiple Tony's. |
Agreed. Alicia Vikander has an Oscar but I wouldn't call her an a lister. |

This list. Awhile back this was one of the surveys that was being passed around studios. The question was to name up to five actors that would make them most interested in seeing a movie in a theater. Top 3 actors were Tom Cruise, The Rock, and Tom Hanks and top 3 actress were Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, and Angelina Jolie. I think that's fair. Puck did a great article about this. A lot of these older actors have the star power and visibility outside of movies that draw people in. Zendaya is an a lister for her generation but she's not quite there yet. I have no doubt she will be though! |
I think the difference is that of current a listers were a listers 25-30 years ago. The next generation just doesn’t have as many traditional a listers. I agree, zendaya and chalomet are the closest things they’ve got. Tom holland and Jacob elordi are also big in gen Z. But in the 90s, you basically had the same dozens of name you have today (which have already been listed) and there were many “young” a-listers. Talking people like hanks, cruise, Roberts, Pitt, Anniston, etc. it’s interesting just how few “young” a listers there are today. |
Austin Butler. A rising start - on his way to A |
How pathetic has the movie industry gotten if even one person thinks that Garfield & McGuire are A list MOVIE STARS? Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Paul Newman, & Gregory Peck must be laughing their butts off. |
Academy award winner |
No Hard Feelings. |
I was looking for Michelle Williams here because I instantly thought of her but can never remember her name (and I got her mixed up with Carey Mulligan). In short, can't remember their names, wouldn't recognize them on the street, but they are in everything and always ARE their character. Not themselves. |
Frances McDormand is definitely an A lister. |
Right but what people are not getting is that the A-list is about economic power in the industry, not just being famous or getting high profile roles.its about being able to ensure a project will make money simply by attaching their name to it. I don't how studios account for revenue from streaming projects like the Morning Show. Certainly it has value, but what is it, exactly? Also Aniston and Witherspoon co-produce and co-star -- assuming the streaming numbers are very good for the show AND that Apple+ can quantify that popularity as leading to revenue in subscriptions, to what degree is it attributed to Aniston alone? This is why I don't know whether TV alone can make you A-list, especially as most high profile projects shift to streaming. Even when Aniston was on Friends, and you could more directly link the show to revenue because the ratings were directly linked to advertising rates during episodes, it is different that Aniston being cast in a room com where she is the star, and then that movie making money. |
