The best thing about this is that whatever Cpac does - this will be the story from now on and all the politicos will worry about association with him.

But going back to an earlier thread. I don’t think the rabid homophobia of closeted conservative politicos is self hatred as much as it is fear of being exposed. They try to be the biggest voice against queer community to avoid exposure. They negate themselves in a bid for money, power, a whole life built around a fiction of heteronormative life. At the end of the day - these are people who have no moral compass. It is akin to so many of the conservatives - they will say and do anything, change age any position, condone any lunacy, literally do anything for the grift.

Is it really so surprising that so many people have willingness cast aside their fundamental self to be accepted by the conservative Christian community?

Oh I think it’s very frequently self hatred. At least among the closeted gay men that I know (who are not politicos or famous). They have been taught that women are the worst and to be gay is to basically be a woman. They have deep shame. It squinks out in weird ways. I’d say I have sympathy for them, but they practice politics of cruelty, always kicking down.

I don't have sympathy for them. They made a choice to be lying, vicious a-holes rather than being honest with themselves.

You know what? I get it. I really do. I get why a person is closeted and ashamed. I was there myself. I was raised by an evangelical family. They don't accept gay or trans people. They instilled so much shame for being a queer person into me. It took a really long time to come to terms with it and stop being ashamed of being myself. That being said, I never made homophobic or transphobic comments. If anything, I acted like an ally before admitting I was part of the community (to which some people were not at all surprised to find out).

No one should feel shame for being queer. If you take that shame and you package it up into little boxes of hate and you throw them at other out queer people in order to make money, you are a horrible person. He and others like him deserve to come out and lives as their authentic self and be happy. They also need to spend time and money to try to reverse some of the hate and damage they have done. They are responsible for people's estrangement from family and even in some cases people's deaths (by murder or suicide). They need to talk to conservatives and explain that sexuality and gender identity are immutable. Having your career destroyed like he is about to have happen isn't great for him but it's something we all fear. We all fear reactions from family, friends, work, and life. He probably thinks this is the worst thing in the world that can possibly happen but if he or someone he knows is reading this, take this chance to actually be yourself. Once you're out, you're out. Life as yourself is always better than a closeted life of shame. And please, make amends for the harm you have done.

Again, you have NO idea if this accusation is fact.

Your retort is how Republicans comforted themselves throughout the Trump years and the rub was that most of the accusations against him and his allies got torpedoed and never investigated. Like a certain rubicund member of Roberts’s religious court; many tips were turned in, the FBI politely declined to investigate. So it’s easy for you to say “you have NO idea if this” blah blah blah. It’ll likely never be investigated and certainly won’t be made public if it is.

But what we can do is look at other examples of Republicans of sex crimes and see how many of them were guilty of what they were accused of.

You have NO IDEA that these accusations aren't fact. I absolutely believe the accuser.

TBH, I'm much less concerned about Schlapp's sexual proclivities than I am about CPAC's extreme RW agenda and support for RWNJs like Orban and Bolsonaro. Not satisfied with promoting hate and division in the US, they're doing so overseas.

They’re two sides of the same coin. Objectionable, horrible people spreading unhappiness and worse.

Actually, Schlapp has always taken heat for being open to Log Cabin Republicans and other gay groups participating in CPAC and other events. Not that it makes assault ok but he has been consistent on this for years. What a disgusting mess for his family though.

The entire apparatus is all a $$$$ grift. They all “believe” whatever top benefactors tell them to. And to be frank, it sounds like all the people who control the apparatus are… uhm… compromised in some fashion. I doubt that’s a coincidence.

That means nothing. That’s like me accusing all Muslim men, which I’d never do.
