Great Wolf Lodge - really that bad?

Anonymous
Am thinking about taking my 3 year old and 5 year old over spring break, but I keep reading about how horrible the rooms are. Is it that bad?

We've gone three years in a row and DC has a ball every time. The rooms with the Kid Kamp or Wolf Den bunk beds are particularly fun.

It's fine. If you go expecting the Mandarin Oriental, you'll be disappointed. If you accept it for what it is, you'll have a blast.

I like the bunk beds with enclosures, as the kids can't see us sleeping. I can't really tolerate more than a day or so, though, because the place is deafeningly loud with all the water and kids. Kids love it though.

Like the PP said if you go into it with realistic expectations that this is a trip purely for the kids it will be fine. My kids loved the room, the water park, and the sword game thing. That place is so over the top that it's fun just watching the kids reactions.

+1

My 4yo twin girls a 7 yo son LOVE Great Wolf Lodge! We stayed in one of the Loft-style rooms and it was fine. We also bring our own food for breakfast and lunch, and then eat dinner off-site. It gives all of us a nice break from the overstimulation.

What? We stayed in one of those log-cabin rooms and it was quite nice. DH was miffed because they don't offer room service. You options are to order a pizza and go to the ground floor to pick it up or to order from a bunch of restaurants that will deliver and then you go to the lobby to pick it up.

I thought the rooms were fine and I love luxury hotels. Rooms were spacious and comfortable enough. The bathrooms were like a motel bathroom and the water was running the entire time though. kids had fun.

Would I go back? Eh...probably.

We were just there before Christmas and our 6 yo loved it. Rooms are spacious, lots of entertainment in case your DC gets tired from the water slides.

For that age range, it's great.

I'll note the pizza is actually not bad. There's an eat-in restaurant there, but I thought that food was pretty bad. There's also a place that's equivalent to a Ruby Tuesday that's in the parking lot of GWL -- it's not bad (better than the restaurant in the lobby) but pretty slow in my experience.

Make sure your shots are up to date and bring your own food.

Check Trip Advisor reviews. The reviews that mention bedbugs mostly seem to be from last year, but that would pretty much rule it out for me. YMMV.
