Thoughts? Do kids get confused being called multiple names? Eg nickname mostly but at a new preschool etc would be called by full name until teacher knows? |
Preshool teacher would know before school starts. You put it on the form. |
I would think he'd be called Fred instead of Rick, which is short for Richard. |
I know an adult who is Frederick but goes by Rick. Most preschools allow you to speak with the teachers and let them know what the child's preferred name is. |
If you want to use Rick as a nickname for Frederick, then do it!
And when the child goes to preschool, tell the teacher that he goes by Rick. |
Frederick is a nice name. Much nicer than either Fred or Rick. It dosent need to be pronounced Fred-e-rick. Just pronounce it Fredric and the nickname problem is solved. |
As far as I know, there are no laws governing nicknames, and no police to enforce them, either. |
I know a Frederick who goes by Rick. Just tell the teacher--a lot of school forms will ask for the name the kid actually goes by.
Kids can totally handle being called by more than one name. My daughter is two and the daycare staff uses her full name and family uses a nickname. Not an issue. |
yeah, it works |
I know 2 Fredericks who go by Rick. They are both the III or IV tho, if that makes any difference... |
Sure, you can use Rick for Frederick. I know an adult Eric (or Erik?) who uses the nickname Rick (I know, I know, I don't know why he does it either). You could also use Fritz. |

Yes there is. It was just an opinion, dolt. Sure, telling the Preschool teacher to call him Rick is fine, and he'd probably have that name all throughout his life, but when someone sees your name first before being introduced to you, they would call you Fred, not Rick. Easy enough to say, call me Rick instead, but most people who don't know you would call you Fred, not Rick upon first meeting. That was my point. |
Rick is an awful, awful name. Growing up we called any kid named Rick, Dick.
Fredrick is pretentious. |
Adorable. You're so sweet. |
