British Swim School - Disgusted - everyone should know

Anonymous
Horrible. Inflexible - don't allow for make up classes even for illness (with a doctor's note). I was willing to work with that because I really want my kids to learn to be safe with water. However - my daughter was kicked out of the class for crying to much. Yes - 1. a children's swim school has contracted with a facility that has a no crying rule, 2. this same school signs up kids (3 yo and 20 month old) for a semi-private class at said facility (with no mention to the parent that there is this rule).

I had started with them having the kids in 2 different classes at a different facility but found it too difficult to have the kids wait for the other. But at this other class - the teacher would roll his eyes at the kids and told me that my 20 month old doesn't have "enough of an attention span" - REALLY?

Pulling my kids out of this class immediately. What a sham! Disgusting practice. Shame on them.

So sorry OP. Sounds like you are making the right move.

Which location is it?

So your 20 month old takes swimming lessons? With you or just with the instructor?

Have you tried swim lessons at other places? Like DCJCC?

Don't know where you are located but we love Swim Kids. Coaches are very good, class sizes are small. They have different groups for toddlers & kids 6 and older. Each class is tailored to match your child's skills. http://swimkids.us

Aquatic Stars. Anna is really good with kids - she has her own 2 or 3 year old. They teach in Takoma.

I tried British Swim School too and was completely underwhelmed...and I'm trying to be tactful in my word selection.

I take my DS to Kids First in Rockville. It's a little bit of a haul, but I'm absolutely thrilled with the instruction he is receiving and the progress that he has made. He's 3.5yo and really getting so confident in the water, plus he loves it, which is the most important part!

British Swim was a cluster-f*** when we went and it probably set DC swimming back by a good 6 months.

Kids First was good but ultimately one-on-one lessons at camp are what did it for DC. Now to budget for those again this summer!

I can't quite believe that they would actually do that. All kids cry at some point in any activity, specially swimming.
Are you sure you are not angry for other reasons??

Report them to BBB, and complain to the manager.

also 20 months old is too young for swim lessons
Anonymous
No, not too young. On that note, I am looking for feedback on ISR classes in the area (infant swim resource self rescue)
http://www.infantswim.com/lessons/isr-lessons.html

Has anyone taken this class in our area?

Swim lessons are a waste of time for anyone under three. Just take them to the pool or beach with you to have fun the first few years. When they are five or six is when swim classes are worth it.
