| The holes where I put my earrings have become so stretched out that I cannot wear studs anymore. Where can I get this fixed, and what is the treatment called? I thought my ear, nose, and throat doctor once mentioned that they do it at most ENTs these days so I will call them tomorrow and check, but wondering if there is a particular term used for this treatment and how much it costs? |
| I would assume a plastic surgeon. |
| Not being snarky - how does this happen? Do you wear lots of dangly earrings? |
| I would assume op wears lots of heavy earrings. |
When I was younger, my ears would get infected terribly by earrings. I didn't really understand that there was some sensitivity due to the metal (i.e. if not 14k gold, they would get infected). Thus, a lot of damage was done. Plus, I did wear some dangly earrings that probably made it worse. It has bothered me for some time and I didn't know until recently that you could get them "fixed". My mom actually has a similar problem because I pulled hoop earrings through one of her earlobes when I was a baby. so one of her lobes is totally separated. |
This has happened to me too I don't wear heavy earrings, never have. A few times my earring got stuck on clothing, and as a result, the hole stretched/tore. It's just in one ear, and the hole is almost a complete tear. I'm thinking a plastic surgeon would be the contact person for this situation, but I'm imaging it will be expensive.

| I'd love to know this too. It's only one ear for me. My left ear is where I hold the phone. I press it so hard my diamond stud pulls down. Now my studs aren't symmetrical. Hate this! |
I had exactly this problem and went to Michael Olding at GW. I actually paid before I saw him, and then he told me that in order to fix the problem, he would have to cut through the rest of the lobe, and I would not be happy with the result. He told the staff to refund my money, and I went on my way. |
| I had it done when my son pulled my hoop and tore the ear, insurance paid and man it hurt! |

I purchased "martini" studs. They have a point that goes into the ear (versus basket studs). And I got the kind that screws off so that they're incredibly difficult to pull off or play with (I used to pop the ends on and off).
I used to pull on my earrings a lot, but after getting these earrings I haven't touched my ears in 3 years. My ear holes were very stretched out but for the most part they have healed up nicely into a nice small hole. |

A plastic surgeon will do this. I had one of my ears fixed for $300. I was able to re-pierce it 6 weeks later, and I had the same plastic surgeon pierce it.
I did not have to have the a cut through the entire lobe. There is a scar but it is barely noticeable now, one year later. |
I'm looking into this as well - most plastic surgeons seem to do it. DS pulled my earring one of the few times I've worn dangly earrings around him. ouch.
