Here is a summary about the purpose of the AAP forum from the sticky post at the top of this forum:
"...It would still have all the AAP stuff in it, but that would be ignored by those to whom it did not pertain. The overall goal would be to provide a forum where people could discuss these issues without it causing offense to those who do not appreciate that these kids exist and that there may be programs to help them. It would cover identification, testing, programs (including but not limited to AAP), assimilation issues, and general problems that come up. For example, how to respond when people comment on how smart your kid is in front of others, what books to give very young readers, how to keep your child from being bored in a lightly differentiated classroom, whether acceleration would be helpful, how to get your child to stop correcting thier peers, whether (and how) you should after school to keep the child interested in learning, the problems with bored children... None of these topics can be brought up here (or in real life) because it just sounds obnoxious. But they are real problems that people face, and it would be great to have a way to discuss them here as this is such a great free-speaking community...." |
Yay!!!!!! I concur! If it offends you or does not pertain to you, go away! |
Looks like you, the self-appointed AAP forum moderator, wrote the above! Just a few typos you might want to correct, but I did like the expression "free-speaking community". So true! |
Believe me, there are more than one of us! " Free-speaking community" in this context means free from all of you angry, nothing-to-contribute posters! |
Wow, lots of interest here where are all of your angry friends? |
What the hell is the point of this thread? |
To try to ostracize someone who doesn't agree with OP. shrug....OP needs a life. |
So is OP the "angry poster who is not going anywhere" or is OP upset with an "angry poster who is not going anywhere"? |
+1000 OP actually thinks that she can dictate who can and cannot post here. She definitely doesn't want to hear from anyone who feels AAP is mismanaged and out of control. In fact, anyone who feels this way is automatically labled "angry" or a "troll". She really does need to get a life... or a thicker skin... or both. |
Are you British? |
I don't get this. Why is OP so angry? Did her kid not get into AAP and so the program should be discontinued and no talk about it? |
I am not the OP. But I think there's definitely room for discussion on AAP mismanagement, prepping, etc. It just belongs in a specific thread. When someone is asking for scores, how about everyone just responds with scores? If you think that's a stupid thread, then post a new one about how overwrought and crazy some AAP parents are. The forum is nearly useless, with all the hijacking that goes on. I was last here for an AAP go-round a few years ago, and it wasn't nearly as bad as it is now. If you truly care about AAP mismanagement and truly want to inform people, you will not hide your comments in an unrelated thread. |
Not angry at all.
There are folks that contribute really interesting points against AAP in a thoughtful, insightful way. Those posters are helpful and contribute a great deal to the discussion. Then there are a handful of really nasty posters who do nothing more than make pointless, asinine statements along the line of "You make me puke if you actually think your snowflake is smarter than anyone else" or completely derail threads with pointless and non contributing rude slams when someone asks an innocuous question about how to put a parent referral packet together for instance. Jeff agreed to create this forum because he had many people who hate AAP and didn't want to have to see the posts in the VA schools forum. He also had equally as many people asking for a place where they could get their questions answered without stirring up the vitriol from those who so hated AAP, similar to why he created the PG County forum. It defeats the purspose of having a separate AAP forum if every single thread or question, even the most basic, is derailed by the self proclaimed "angry" (her words, not mine) troll. |

Unfortunately, the people who do have insightful and thoughtful opinions about why AAP has become so awful are immediately labled "hijackers, trolls, or angry" by others who don't want anyone to read what these people have to say. God forbid other posters might agree with them! So I see what you're saying about the really nasty posters, but most of the negative viewpoints about AAP are not written in this tone and should not be dismissed as just angry rantings. AAP affects every FCPS student and parent, even those not in the program. AAP has been depleting the general ed. classes of average kids for years, making it appear AAP is the new normal. FCPS taxpayers all foot the bill for this program and every one of us should have a say in how it is managed. Or mismanaged. |
