| We are contemplating having our second child, we are blessed with a healthy 1st child at 38....do we push the envelope at 40 and go for a second? i am scared !! |
| same boat-I just turned 39 and I have a 15 month old--not sure what to do! |
| Well worth it. Sibs are wonderful. |
|
I had mine at 40.
I'd go for it unless you had serious health issues during your first pregnancy and were almost certain to be super-high risk this time around. |
|
at 38 - had kid number one (not planned)
two weeks shy of 42 - kid number 2 came along (planned) They are almost exactly 4 years apart - both May babies. It's all good! |
| I had my first at 38, and had my second just shy of my 40th birthday. I will turn 41 in 3 months, and am contemplating having another!! Do it. Seeing sibling interaction is a special treat, and totally worth it! |
| Had my 1st at 37 yo. 40 is not too late. If your husband is on board with the idea, go for it. I'd love to have a sibling for my DD, but we're not in a place to have a 2nd child. |

Biologically - you are too old when you reach menopause. (but, you can try adoption)
Physically - you are too old if your body gives you warning signs (rough pregnancies, hard time getting pregnant, etc.) Mentally - you are too old when you feel that you are too old. |
| A little off topic: To 10:03 - My #2 is due soon and will be 4 years (almost to the day) apart. How is it going? How was the transition for your first? By the way, I'll be just shy of my 39th birthday and have had no problems, OP. |
| Do any of you think that 46 is too old to be trying to have a baby??? |
|
to the 11:07 poster, if you do all the testing available i'd say go for it !!!
good luck |
| I had my first at 42 and had a fabulous pregnancy and easy birth plus my baby boy is the most precious, beautiful, healthy infant and full of vitality and energy - I was in good health prior to the pregnancy, very fit and in a normal weight range - my gyny said I did wonderfully well both with the pregnancy and delivery - hope this info helps you with your decision! P.S. I have lots of friends in their late 30's and early 40's who have had healthy pregnancies too. |
It all depends on the woman, the family, their life, etc. We never blink an eye at a man becoming a father at 46. I don't think we should hold the woman to a different standard, either, other than the fact she has to be physically capable of carrying the pregnancy, etc. |
You don't think that there is a difference between a woman and a man when it comes to getting pregnant?? All of the studies show that after the age of 35 your eggs start to get "old" increasing the chances of your child having downs and another genetic issue. Would you consider 46 reckless or selfish? |
| Go for it. I had my first at 36, second at 38 and I am hoping to go for my third at 40. |
