I am looking for a place to donate a freezer full of BM, preferably before I have to put a turkey in the freezer in a couple weeks! I am looking to donate to a regulated milk bank where the milk can be used by preemies, etc. Part of the reason I am donating is that I have a lipase issue, so a direct donation through Human Milk for Human Babies or CL or something won't work because my frozen milk tastes like vomit. Anyone have experience donating milk? |
You might still try for Human Milk for Human Babies, as some babies tolerate lipase milk ok. If a mom already knows her kid gulped down lipase-yuck milk in the past, she might still be grateful for hte donation. |
Your milk doesn't have a lipase problem, all human milk has lipase. Some babies are more sensitive to it than others, my baby had no problem drinking it but my niece apparently couldn't handle it.
I'd call the Breastfeeding Center on K St. for some suggestions about where to donate it. |
Hmm, from everything I've read about I had gathered that some women have excess or overactive lipase that changes the taste of their frozen milk. Does everyone's milk taste like soap after a couple days in the freezer? Mine didn't for the first month or two. |
the breastfeeding center collects frozen milk for the milk bank of Austin. lipase-y milk is okay because it's tube-fed to preemies, who couldn't care less about the taste. |
The bf center collects for a regulated milk bank. Definitely call or check their web site for details. |
Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for! I'll give them a call. |
